Jerusalem the Useless Vine

1  וַיְהִ֥י (And came to be) דְבַר־ (the word) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) אֵלַ֥י (to me) לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 2  בֶּן־ (Son) אָדָ֕ם (of man), מַה־ (how) יִּֽהְיֶ֥ה (is) עֵץ־ (the wood) הַגֶּ֖פֶן (of the vine) מִכָּל־ (more than any) עֵ֑ץ (wood), הַזְּמוֹרָ֕ה (the vine branch) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) הָיָ֖ה (is) בַּעֲצֵ֥י (among the trees) הַיָּֽעַר׃ (of the forest)? 3  הֲיֻקַּ֤ח (Is taken) מִמֶּ֙נּוּ֙ (from it) עֵ֔ץ (wood) לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת (it to use) לִמְלָאכָ֑ה (for work)? אִם־ (Or) יִקְח֤וּ (do they make) מִמֶּ֙נּוּ֙ (from it) יָתֵ֔ד (a peg) לִתְל֥וֹת (to hang) עָלָ֖יו (on it)? כָּל־ (Any) כֶּֽלִי׃ (vessel).

4  הִנֵּ֥ה (Behold), לָאֵ֖שׁ (to the fire) נִתַּ֣ן (it is given) לְאָכְלָ֑ה (for food); אֵת֩ (-) שְׁנֵ֨י (the two) קְצוֹתָ֜יו (of its ends) אָכְלָ֤ה (devours) הָאֵשׁ֙ (the fire) וְתוֹכ֣וֹ (and middle of it) נָחָ֔ר (is burned). הֲיִצְלַ֖ח (Is it useful) לִמְלָאכָֽה׃ (for work)? 5  הִנֵּה֙ (Behold), בִּֽהְיוֹת֣וֹ (in its being) תָמִ֔ים (complete), לֹ֥א (not) יֵֽעָשֶׂ֖ה (could it be made) לִמְלָאכָ֑ה (for work). אַ֣ף (How much less) כִּי־ (when) אֵ֤שׁ (the fire) אֲכָלַ֙תְהוּ֙ (has devoured it) וַיֵּחָ֔ר (and it is burned)? וְנַעֲשָׂ֥ה (And can it even be made) ע֖וֹד (yet) לִמְלָאכָֽה׃ס (for work).

6  לָכֵ֗ן (Therefore) כֹּ֤ה (thus) אָמַר֙ (says) אֲדֹנָ֣י (the Lord) יְהוִ֔ה (YHWH); כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר (Just like) עֵץ־ (the wood) הַגֶּ֙פֶן֙ (of the vine) בְּעֵ֣ץ (among the trees) הַיַּ֔עַר (of the forest), אֲשֶׁר־ (which) נְתַתִּ֥יו (I have given) לָאֵ֖שׁ (to the fire) לְאָכְלָ֑ה (for food), כֵּ֣ן (so) נָתַ֔תִּי (I have given) אֶת־ (-) יֹשְׁבֵ֖י (the dwellers) יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ (of Jerusalem). 7  וְנָתַתִּ֤י (And I will set) אֶת־ (-) פָּנַי֙ (My face) בָּהֶ֔ם (against them) מֵהָאֵ֣שׁ (from the fire), יָצָ֔אוּ (they will come out) וְהָאֵ֖שׁ (and the fire) תֹּֽאכְלֵ֑ם (will devour them) וִֽידַעְתֶּם֙ (and you⁺ will know) כִּֽי־ (that) אֲנִ֣י (I am) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) בְּשׂוּמִ֥י (in My setting) אֶת־ (-) פָּנַ֖י (My face) בָּהֶֽם׃ (against them).

8  וְנָתַתִּ֥י (And I will make) אֶת־ (-) הָאָ֖רֶץ (the land) שְׁמָמָ֑ה (a desolation), יַ֚עַן (because) מָ֣עֲלוּ (they have acted unfaithfully) מַ֔עַל (an unfaithfulness), נְאֻ֖ם (a declaration) אֲדֹנָ֥י (of the Lord) יְהוִֽה׃פ (YHWH).
