Twenty-Four Divisions of Musicians

1  וַיַּבְדֵּ֣ל (And separated) דָּוִיד֩ (David) וְשָׂרֵ֨י (and the heads) הַצָּבָ֜א (of the host) לַעֲבֹדָ֗ה (for service) לִבְנֵ֤י (some of the sons) אָסָף֙ (of Asaph), וְהֵימָ֣ן (and of Heman), וִֽידוּת֔וּן (and of Jeduthun), הַנְּבִּיאִים (to prophesy) בְּכִנֹּר֥וֹת (with harps), בִּנְבָלִ֖ים (stringed instruments), וּבִמְצִלְתָּ֑יִם (and cymbals); וַֽיְהִי֙ (and was) מִסְפָּרָ֔ם (the number) אַנְשֵׁ֥י (of men) מְלָאכָ֖ה (of the workmen) לַעֲבֹדָתָֽם׃ (according to their service):

2  לִבְנֵ֣י (Of the sons) אָסָ֗ף (of Asaph): זַכּ֧וּר (ZAccur), וְיוֹסֵ֛ף (and Joseph), וּנְתַנְיָ֥ה (and Nethaniah), וַאֲשַׂרְאֵ֖לָה (and Asharelah), בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) אָסָ֑ף (of Asaph) עַ֚ל (under) יַד־ (the direction) אָסָ֔ף (of Asaph), הַנִּבָּ֖א (who prophesied) עַל־ (according to) יְדֵ֥י (the order) הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ (of the king).

3  לִידוּת֑וּן (Of Jeduthun), בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יְדוּת֡וּן (of Jeduthun): גְּדַלְיָ֡הוּ (Gedaliah), וּצְרִ֡י (and Zeri), וִֽ֠ישַׁעְיָהוּ (and Jeshaiah), חֲשַׁבְיָ֨הוּ (Hashabiah), וּמַתִּתְיָ֜הוּ (and Mattithiah)— שִׁשָּׁ֗ה (six)— עַל֩ (under) יְדֵ֨י (the hand) אֲבִיהֶ֤ם (of their father) יְדוּתוּן֙ (Jeduthun), בַּכִּנּ֔וֹר (with a harp) הַנִּבָּ֕א (prophesying) עַל־ (for) הֹד֥וֹת (giving of thanks) וְהַלֵּ֖ל (and of praise) לַיהוָֽה׃ס (YHWH).

4  לְהֵימָ֑ן (Of Heman), בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) הֵימָ֡ן (of Heman): בֻּקִּיָּ֡הוּ (Bukkiah), מַתַּנְיָ֡הוּ (Mattaniah), עֻ֠זִּיאֵל (Uzziel), שְׁבוּאֵ֨ל (Shebuel), וִֽירִימ֜וֹת (and Jerimoth), חֲנַנְיָ֣ה (Hananiah), חֲנָ֗נִי (Hanani), אֱלִיאָ֤תָה (Eliathah), גִדַּ֙לְתִּי֙ (Giddalti), וְרֹמַ֣מְתִּי (and Romamti-) עֶ֔זֶר (and ezer), יָשְׁבְּקָ֣שָׁה (Joshbekashah), מַלּ֔וֹתִי (Mallothi), הוֹתִ֖יר (Hothir), מַחֲזִיאֽוֹת׃ (Mahazioth). 5  כָּל־ (All) אֵ֨לֶּה (these were) בָנִ֜ים (the sons) לְהֵימָ֗ן (of Heman) חֹזֵ֥ה (seer) הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ (of the king) בְּדִבְרֵ֥י (in the words) הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים (of God), לְהָרִ֣ים (to lift up) קָ֑רֶן (a horn). וַיִּתֵּ֨ן (And gave) הָאֱלֹהִ֜ים (God) לְהֵימָ֗ן (to Heman) בָּנִ֛ים (sons) אַרְבָּעָ֥ה (four) עָשָׂ֖ר (and ten) וּבָנ֥וֹת (and daughters) שָׁלֽוֹשׁ׃ (three).

6  כָּל־ (All) אֵ֣לֶּה (these were) עַל־ (under) יְדֵי֩ (the hand) אֲבִיהֶ֨ם (of their father) בַּשִּׁ֜יר (in the song) בֵּ֣ית (of the house) יְהוָ֗ה (of YHWH), בִּמְצִלְתַּ֙יִם֙ (with cymbals), נְבָלִ֣ים (harps), וְכִנֹּר֔וֹת (and lyres), לַעֲבֹדַ֖ת (for the service) בֵּ֣ית (of the house) הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים (of God).

עַ֚ל (Under) יְדֵ֣י (the hand) הַמֶּ֔לֶךְס (of the king were) אָסָ֥ף (Asaph), וִידוּת֖וּן (and Jeduthun), וְהֵימָֽן׃ (and Heman). 7  וַיְהִ֤י (And was) מִסְפָּרָם֙ (the number of them) עִם־ (with) אֲחֵיהֶ֔ם (their brothers) מְלֻמְּדֵי־ (who were instructed) שִׁ֖יר (in the songs) לַיהוָ֑ה (of YHWH), כָּל־ (all) הַ֨מֵּבִ֔ין (who were skillful), מָאתַ֖יִם (two hundred) שְׁמוֹנִ֥ים (eighty) וּשְׁמוֹנָֽה׃ (and eight). 8  וַיַּפִּ֜ילוּ (And they cast) גּוֹרָל֣וֹת (lots) מִשְׁמֶ֗רֶת (for their duty) לְעֻמַּת֙ (unto) כַּקָּטֹ֣ן (the small) כַּגָּד֔וֹל (as well as the great), מֵבִ֖ין (the teacher) עִם־ (with) תַּלְמִֽיד׃פ (the pupil).

9  וַיֵּצֵ֞א (And came out) הַגּוֹרָ֧ל (the lot) הָרִאשׁ֛וֹן (first) לְאָסָ֖ף (for Asaph) לְיוֹסֵ֑ף (to Joseph);

גְּדַלְיָ֙הוּ֙ (to Gedaliah) הַשֵּׁנִ֔י (the second)— הֽוּא־ (him) וְאֶחָ֥יו (and his brothers) וּבָנָ֖יו (and his sons)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

10  הַשְּׁלִשִׁ֣י (the third) זַכּ֔וּר (to Zaccur), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

11  הָרְבִיעִי֙ (the fourth) לַיִּצְרִ֔י (to Izri), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

12  הַחֲמִישִׁ֣י (the fifth) נְתַנְיָ֔הוּ (to Nethaniah), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

13  הַשִּׁשִּׁ֣י (the sixth) בֻקִּיָּ֔הוּ (to Bukkiah), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

14  הַשְּׁבִעִ֣י (the seventh) יְשַׂרְאֵ֔לָה (to Jesharelah), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

15  הַשְּׁמִינִ֣י (the eighth) יְשַֽׁעְיָ֔הוּ (to Jeshaiah), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

16  הַתְּשִׁיעִ֣י (the ninth) מַתַּנְיָ֔הוּ (to Mattaniah), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

17  הָעֲשִׂירִ֣י (the tenth) שִׁמְעִ֔י (to Shimei), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

18  עַשְׁתֵּֽי־ (the one) עָשָׂ֣ר (and tenth); עֲזַרְאֵ֔ל (to Azarel), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

19  הַשְּׁנֵ֤ים (the two) עָשָׂר֙ (and tenth); לַחֲשַׁבְיָ֔ה (to Hashabiah), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

20  לִשְׁלֹשָׁ֤ה (the three) עָשָׂר֙ (and tenth); שֽׁוּבָאֵ֔ל (to Shubael), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

21  לְאַרְבָּעָ֤ה (the four) עָשָׂר֙ (and tenth) מַתִּתְיָ֔הוּ (to Mattithiah), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

22  לַחֲמִשָּׁ֤ה (the five) עָשָׂר֙ (and tenth) לִֽירֵמ֔וֹת (to Jeremoth), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

23  לְשִׁשָּׁ֤ה (the six) עָשָׂר֙ (and tenth) לַחֲנַנְיָ֔הוּ (to Hananiah), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

24  לְשִׁבְעָ֤ה (the seven) עָשָׂר֙ (and tenth) לְיָשְׁבְּקָ֔שָׁה (to Joshbekashah), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

25  לִשְׁמוֹנָ֤ה (the eight) עָשָׂר֙ (and tenth) לַחֲנָ֔נִי (to Hanani), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

26  לְתִשְׁעָ֤ה (the nine) עָשָׂר֙ (and tenth) לְמַלּ֔וֹתִי (to Mallothi), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

27  לְעֶשְׂרִים֙ (the twentieth) לֶֽאֱלִיָּ֔תָה (to Eliathah), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

28  לְאֶחָ֤ד (the one) וְעֶשְׂרִים֙ (and twentieth) לְהוֹתִ֔יר (to Hothir), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

29  לִשְׁנַ֤יִם (the two) וְעֶשְׂרִים֙ (and twentieth) לְגִדַּ֔לְתִּי (to Giddalti), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

30  לִשְׁלֹשָׁ֤ה (the three) וְעֶשְׂרִים֙ (and twentieth) לְמַ֣חֲזִיא֔וֹת (to Mahazioth), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃ (and ten);

31  לְאַרְבָּעָ֤ה (the four) וְעֶשְׂרִים֙ (and twentieth) לְרוֹמַ֣מְתִּי (to) עָ֔זֶר (Romamti-ezer), בָּנָ֥יו (his sons), וְאֶחָ֖יו (and his brothers)— שְׁנֵ֥ים (two) עָשָֽׂר׃פ (and ten);
