The phrase "The Great Works of the LORD" refers to the mighty acts and deeds performed by God throughout biblical history, as recorded in the Scriptures. These works encompass creation, providence, redemption, and judgment, reflecting God's power, wisdom, and love. The Bible frequently calls believers to remember and proclaim these works as a testament to God's glory and faithfulness.

Creation

The foundational work of the LORD is the creation of the universe. Genesis 1:1 states, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." This act of creation is a demonstration of God's omnipotence and sovereignty, as He spoke the world into existence. Psalm 19:1 declares, "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands." The intricate design and order of creation reveal God's wisdom and serve as a continual reminder of His greatness.

Providence

God's providential care is another aspect of His great works. He sustains and governs all things according to His will. In Matthew 6:26, Jesus teaches, "Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns—and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" This passage highlights God's ongoing provision and care for His creation, ensuring that all things work together for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28).

Redemption

The work of redemption is central to the biblical narrative and is the ultimate demonstration of God's love and mercy. The deliverance of Israel from Egypt is a significant redemptive act, as recounted in Exodus 14:30-31: "That day the LORD saved Israel from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the shore. When Israel saw the great power that the LORD had exercised against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD and believed in Him and in His servant Moses."

The greatest work of redemption is the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. John 3:16 proclaims, "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." Through Christ's sacrificial death and victorious resurrection, God provided salvation for humanity, reconciling sinners to Himself.

Judgment

God's works also include acts of judgment, which demonstrate His holiness and justice. The flood in the time of Noah (Genesis 6-9) and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19) are examples of divine judgment against sin. These events serve as warnings of the consequences of disobedience and the reality of God's righteous judgment.

The final judgment is described in Revelation 20:11-15, where the dead are judged according to their deeds. This ultimate act of judgment underscores the seriousness of sin and the necessity of faith in Christ for salvation.

Praise and Remembrance

Believers are called to remember and proclaim the great works of the LORD. Psalm 145:4-6 states, "One generation will commend Your works to the next, and they shall proclaim Your mighty acts, the glorious splendor of Your majesty. And I will meditate on Your wondrous works. They will proclaim the power of Your awesome deeds, and I will declare Your greatness." This call to remembrance serves to strengthen faith, inspire worship, and encourage obedience among God's people.

In summary, the great works of the LORD encompass His acts of creation, providence, redemption, and judgment. These works reveal His character and invite believers to respond with awe, gratitude, and worship.
