The concept of assurance to Israel is a recurring theme throughout the Bible, reflecting God's unwavering commitment to His chosen people. This assurance is rooted in the covenants God made with the patriarchs and is reaffirmed through the prophets and the teachings of the New Testament.

Covenantal Promises

The foundation of Israel's assurance lies in the covenants God established with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. In Genesis 12:2-3, God promises Abraham, "I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you; and all the families of the earth will be blessed through you." This covenant is reiterated and expanded in Genesis 15 and 17, where God assures Abraham of numerous descendants and the land of Canaan as an everlasting possession.

The covenant with Isaac and Jacob further solidifies this assurance. In Genesis 26:3-4, God tells Isaac, "Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with you and bless you. For to you and your descendants I will give all these lands, and I will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham." Similarly, in Genesis 28:13-15, God appears to Jacob in a dream, reaffirming the promise of land and descendants, and assuring him of His presence and protection.

Assurance through the Law and Prophets

The Mosaic Covenant, given at Mount Sinai, provides Israel with the Law, which serves as a guide for living in accordance with God's will. In Deuteronomy 7:9, Moses reminds the Israelites, "Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of loving devotion for a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commandments."

The prophets continually remind Israel of God's faithfulness and the assurance of His promises, even in times of disobedience and exile. Isaiah 41:10 offers comfort, "Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand." Similarly, Jeremiah 29:11 provides hope, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope."

Messianic Assurance

The assurance to Israel is ultimately fulfilled in the promise of the Messiah. The prophets speak of a coming Savior who will restore Israel and bring salvation to the ends of the earth. Isaiah 9:6-7 proclaims, "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end."

In the New Testament, Jesus Christ is revealed as the fulfillment of these messianic prophecies. In Luke 1:32-33, the angel Gabriel tells Mary, "He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David, and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever. His kingdom will never end."

Eschatological Assurance

The assurance to Israel extends into eschatological promises, where God assures the ultimate restoration and redemption of His people. In Romans 11:26-27, Paul writes, "And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: 'The Deliverer will come from Zion, He will remove godlessness from Jacob. And this is My covenant with them when I take away their sins.'"

The book of Revelation also speaks of the fulfillment of God's promises to Israel, with the vision of the New Jerusalem and the gathering of all nations to worship the Lord. Revelation 21:3-4 declares, "And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, 'Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man, and He will dwell with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.'"
