The term "kinder" is not directly found in the Bible; however, the concept of kindness and the treatment of children, which can be related to the term "kinder," is deeply embedded in biblical teachings. The Bible emphasizes the importance of kindness as a fruit of the Spirit and provides numerous examples and instructions regarding the care and upbringing of children.

Kindness in the Bible

Kindness is a virtue that is highly esteemed in Scripture. It is often associated with love, compassion, and mercy. In Galatians 5:22-23 , kindness is listed as one of the fruits of the Spirit: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." This passage highlights the importance of kindness as a characteristic of a life led by the Holy Spirit.

The Bible also provides practical examples of kindness. In the Old Testament, the account of Ruth and Boaz is a profound illustration of kindness. Boaz shows kindness to Ruth, a foreigner and widow, by allowing her to glean in his fields and providing her with protection and sustenance (Ruth 2:8-16). This act of kindness ultimately leads to Ruth becoming part of the lineage of King David and, ultimately, Jesus Christ.

In the New Testament, Jesus Christ is the ultimate example of kindness. His interactions with the marginalized, such as the healing of the lepers (Luke 17:11-19) and the forgiveness of the adulterous woman (John 8:1-11), demonstrate His compassionate and kind nature. Jesus' teachings, such as the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37), further emphasize the importance of showing kindness to others, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Children in the Bible

The Bible places significant importance on children and their upbringing. Children are seen as a blessing from the Lord, as stated in Psalm 127:3 : "Children are indeed a heritage from the LORD, and the fruit of the womb is His reward." This verse underscores the value and blessing that children represent in a family and community.

Parents are given the responsibility to raise their children in the knowledge and fear of the Lord. Proverbs 22:6 instructs, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." This verse highlights the importance of instilling godly values and teachings in children from a young age.

Jesus Himself showed a special affection for children. In Matthew 19:14 , Jesus says, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them! For the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." This statement not only affirms the value of children but also indicates that their innocence and humility are qualities esteemed in the kingdom of heaven.

Conclusion

While the specific term "kinder" is not found in the Bible, the principles of kindness and the care of children are deeply rooted in biblical teachings. The Bible encourages believers to exhibit kindness as a reflection of God's love and to nurture children in a manner that honors the Lord. Through the examples of biblical figures and the teachings of Jesus, Christians are called to embody these virtues in their daily lives.
