Topical Encyclopedia IntroductionGod's global plan is a central theme throughout the Bible, reflecting His sovereign will and purpose for humanity and creation. This divine plan encompasses the redemption of mankind, the establishment of His kingdom, and the ultimate restoration of all things. From Genesis to Revelation, Scripture reveals God's intention to bless all nations and bring about His eternal purposes. Creation and the Fall The global plan of God begins with creation, where He establishes the world and humanity in perfect harmony. Genesis 1:28 states, "God blessed them and said, 'Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and every creature that moves on the ground.'" This command reflects God's intention for humanity to steward the earth under His authority. However, the fall of man in Genesis 3 introduces sin and separation from God, necessitating a plan for redemption. Despite the fall, God's purpose remains unthwarted, as He promises a future Redeemer in Genesis 3:15, often referred to as the protoevangelium, or the first gospel. The Abrahamic Covenant God's global plan further unfolds through His covenant with Abraham. In Genesis 12:3 , God promises, "I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you, and all the families of the earth will be blessed through you." This covenant establishes Israel as a chosen nation through which God will bring blessings to all nations, foreshadowing the coming of the Messiah. Israel and the Law Through Moses, God gives the Law to Israel, setting them apart as a holy nation. The Law serves as a guide for righteous living and a means to reveal God's character to the world. Deuteronomy 4:6 states, "Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding in the sight of the peoples, who will hear of all these statutes and say, 'Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.'" Despite Israel's repeated failures, God's plan remains steadfast. The prophets foretell a new covenant and a coming Messiah who will fulfill God's promises and extend His salvation to the ends of the earth. The Coming of the Messiah The arrival of Jesus Christ marks the pivotal moment in God's global plan. As the promised Messiah, Jesus fulfills the Law and the Prophets, inaugurating the kingdom of God. In Matthew 28:19-20 , Jesus commissions His disciples, saying, "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you." Through His death and resurrection, Jesus provides the means for reconciliation with God, offering salvation to all who believe. This redemptive work is central to God's plan, as expressed in John 3:16 : "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." The Church and the Great Commission The Church, established at Pentecost, becomes the instrument through which God's global plan continues. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, believers are called to be witnesses "to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8). The apostle Paul emphasizes the inclusion of Gentiles in God's plan, declaring in Ephesians 3:6 , "This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are fellow heirs, fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus." The Consummation of God's Plan The culmination of God's global plan is depicted in the book of Revelation, where the vision of a new heaven and a new earth is revealed. Revelation 7:9 describes a multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language standing before the throne of God, signifying the fulfillment of His promise to bless all nations. In Revelation 21:3-4 , the ultimate restoration is proclaimed: "And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, 'Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man, and He will dwell with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.'"
