How to be ready for Christ's return?
How can we ensure we are "properly dressed" for Christ's return?

The Wedding Garment Promise

“Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him the glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready. She was given fine linen to wear, bright and pure.” — Revelation 19:7-8

What “Properly Dressed” Means

• “Fine linen” = the public, observable “righteous acts of the saints” (v. 8).

• These acts do not purchase salvation; they display the salvation Christ has already provided (Ephesians 2:8-10).

• Proper dress is therefore a life that visibly matches the righteousness Christ credited to us the moment we believed (Romans 3:22).

Receiving the Garment

1. Repent and believe the gospel (Mark 1:15).

2. Be clothed with Christ’s righteousness the instant you trust Him (Isaiah 61:10; 2 Corinthians 5:21).

3. Receive the indwelling Spirit, who empowers every righteous act (Galatians 5:22-25).

Keeping the Garment Clean

• Daily confession and forsaking of sin (1 John 1:9).

• Immediate obedience to the Spirit’s promptings (John 14:21).

• Separation from corrupting influences (James 1:27; 2 Corinthians 6:17).

• Regular washing in the Word, which Christ uses to cleanse His bride (Ephesians 5:26-27).

Caution Against Self-Made Garments

• “All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6).

• Relying on self-effort produces garments that will be rejected, like the man without wedding clothes in Matthew 22:11-13.

• Genuine righteousness is Spirit-empowered, not self-generated (Philippians 3:3-9).

Practical Ways to Dress Daily

• Begin each morning surrendering to Christ’s lordship (Romans 12:1-2).

• Feed on Scripture; put on truth as a belt (Ephesians 6:14).

• Pray continually; stay alert and sober (1 Thessalonians 5:6-8).

• Serve others; love is the outer garment that makes faith visible (Colossians 3:12-14).

• Share the gospel; beautiful feet bring good news (Romans 10:15).

The Urgency of Dressing Now

• “The day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night” (1 Thessalonians 5:2).

• “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour” (Matthew 25:13).

• Living ready today ensures no frantic scrambling tomorrow.

Our Final Appearance

• At His return, Christ presents a Church “without stain or wrinkle” (Ephesians 5:27).

• The armies of heaven will follow Him, “dressed in fine linen, white and pure” (Revelation 19:14).

• The clothing He supplies now will be the clothing we display then—so wear it with joy and diligence until He comes.
