Psalms 81:2-16 ▼

2 Lift up a melody and strike the timbrel, the sweet-sounding harp with the lute.

3 Blow the shofar on the new moon, on the full moon at the day of our Feast.

4 For it is a statute, O Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob.

5 As a testimony He established it in Joseph, in His going forth over the land of Egypt. I heard a language that I did not know:

6 “I turned aside his shoulder from the burden; his hands pass over from the basket.

7 In the time of distress you called, and I drew you out; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah

8 hear, O My people, and I will testify against you—O Israel, if you would listen to Me!

9 There shall not be among you a strange god, and you shall not bow down to foreign god.

10 I am YHWH your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt; open wide your mouth, and I will fill it.

11 My people would not listen to My voice, and Israel has not consented to Me.

12 And I sent them away in the stubbornness of their hearts, to walk by their own counsels.

13 If only My people would listen to Me, Israel would walk in My ways!

14 In a moment I would subdue their enemies, and over their adversaries I would turn back My hand.

15 Those hating YHWH would feign obedience before Him, and their time would be forever.

16 And He would feed him of the fat of wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”
