47 And that servant who knew his lord's will, and made not ready, nor did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes ; 48 but he who knew not, and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few. And to whomsoever much is given, of him will much be required; and to whomsoever they committed much, of him they will ask the more. 49 "I came to cast fire on the earth; and what wish I, if it were already kindled? 50 But I have an immersion to be immersed with ; and how am I constrained until it be accomplished! 51 Think ye that I came to give peace in the earth? I tell you, nay, but rather division. 52 For from this time forth five in one house will be divided, three against two, and two against three; 53 they will be divided, father against son, and son against father; mother against daughter, and daughter against the mother; mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and daughter-in-law against the mother-in-law." 54 And He said to the multitudes also, "When ye see a cloud rising in the west, straightway ye say 'A shower is coming!' and so it happens. 55 And, when ye see a south wind blowing, ye say, 'There will be scorching heat!' and it comes to pass. 56 Hypocrites! Ye know how to interpret the face of the earth and of the heavens but how is it ye know not how to interpret this time? 57 And why even of yourselves do ye not judge what is right? 58 For, as you are going with your adversary before the ruler, on the way give diligence to be released from him; lest he draw you to the judge, and the judge shall deliver you to the exactor, and the exactor shall cast you into prison. 59 I tell you, you will in no wise come out thence, till you shall pay even the last mite."
