John 19:1-11 ▼

1 Then Pilate, therefore, took Jesus, and scourged Him .

2 And the soldiers, having platted a crown of thorns, placed it upon his head, and put on Him a purple robe;

3 and they kept coming to Him, and saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!" And they were giving Him blows with a rod.

4 And Pilate went out again, and says to them, "Behold, I bring Him out to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in Him."

5 Jesus, therefore, came forth without, wearing the thorn-crown, and the purple robe. And he says to them, "Behold, the Man!"

6 When, therefore, the high priests and the officers saw Him, they cried out, "Crucify! crucify!" Pilate says to them, "Take ye Him, and crucify Him ; for I find not a crime in Him."

7 The Jews, therefore, answered him, "We have a law, and according to the law He ought to die, because He made Himself God's Son."

8 When, therefore, Pilate heard this saying, he was the more afraid;

9 and he entered again into the Praetorium, and says to Jesus, "Whence art Thou?" But Jesus gave him no answer.

10 Pilate, therefore, says to Him, "Dost Thou not speak to me? Knowest Thou not that I have authority to release Thee, and have authority to crucify Thee?"

11 Jesus answered him, "You would have no authority against Me, unless it were given to you from above; on this account, he who delivered Me up to you has greater sin."
