And it came to pass when Jeremiah had stopped speaking to all the people all the words of YHWH their God, which YHWH their God had sent him to them all these words,

that Azariah son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan son of Kareah, and all the arrogant men spoke to Jeremiah, saying: “You are speaking falsehood! YHWH our God has not sent you to say, ‘Do not go to Egypt to dwell there.

For Baruch son of Neriah has been inciting you against us in order to give us into the hand of the Chaldeans, to put us to death, or to carry us away captive to Babylon.

And Johanan son of Kareah, and all the captains, of the forces and all the people would not listen to the voice of YHWH to dwell in the land of Judah.

And Johanan son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces took all the remnant of Judah, those who had returned from all the nations to which they had been driven there, to dwell in the land of Judah—

the men, and the women, and the sons and daughters of the king, and every soul whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guards had left with Gedaliah son of Ahikam son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch son of Neriah.

And they came to the land of Egypt, for they did not listen to the voice of YHWH, and they came as far as Tahpanhes.

And the word of YHWH to came Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying:

“Take in your hand large stones and hide them in the mortar in the brick that is at the entrance to house of Pharaoh in Tahpanhes, before the eyes of the men of the Jews.
