Jeremiah Taken to Egypt

And it came to pass when Jeremiah had stopped speaking to all the people all the words of YHWH their God, which YHWH their God had sent him to them all these words, 2that Azariah son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan son of Kareah, and all the arrogant men spoke to Jeremiah, saying: “You are speaking falsehood! YHWH our God has not sent you to say, ‘Do not go to Egypt to dwell there. 3For Baruch son of Neriah has been inciting you against us in order to give us into the hand of the Chaldeans, to put us to death, or to carry us away captive to Babylon.

And Johanan son of Kareah, and all the captains, of the forces and all the people would not listen to the voice of YHWH to dwell in the land of Judah. 5And Johanan son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces took all the remnant of Judah, those who had returned from all the nations to which they had been driven there, to dwell in the land of Judah— 6the men, and the women, and the sons and daughters of the king, and every soul whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guards had left with Gedaliah son of Ahikam son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch son of Neriah.

And they came to the land of Egypt, for they did not listen to the voice of YHWH, and they came as far as Tahpanhes.

And the word of YHWH to came Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying: 9“Take in your hand large stones and hide them in the mortar in the brick that is at the entrance to house of Pharaoh in Tahpanhes, before the eyes of the men of the Jews.

And say to them, thus says YHWH of Hosts, the God of Israel: ‘Behold, I am sending and I will bring Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and I will set his throne above these stones that I have hidden, and he will spread his pavilion over them. 11And he will come and he will strike the land of Egypt—those for death to death, and those for captivity to captivity, and those for the sword to the sword.

And I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt, and he will burn them and carry them away captive, and he will wrap himself with the land of Egypt as the shepherd wraps himself with his garment, and he will go forth from there in peace. 13And he will break the pillars of Heliopolis that are in the land of Egypt, and the houses of the gods of Egypt he will burn with fire.
