1 But speak thou the things that become sound doctrine: But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine. You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine.
2 That the aged men be sober, chaste, prudent, sound in faith, in love, in patience. Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness. Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.
3 The aged women, in like manner, in holy attire, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teaching well: Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good.
4 That they may teach the young women to be wise, to love their husbands, to love their children, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children,
5 To be discreet, chaste, sober, having a care of the house, gentle, obedient to their husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled. to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.
6 Young men, in like manner, exhort that they be sober. Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled. Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled.
7 In all things shew thyself an example of good works, in doctrine, in integrity, in gravity, Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, In everything set them an example by doing what is good. 8 The sound word that can not be blamed: that he, who is on the contrary part, may be afraid, having no evil to say of us. and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us. and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.
9 Exhort servants to be obedient to their masters, in all things pleasing, not gainsaying: Bondservants are to be submissive to their own masters in everything; they are to be well-pleasing, not argumentative, Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them,
10 Not defrauding, but in all things shewing good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things: not pilfering, but showing all good faith, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior. and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.
11 For the grace of God our Savior hath appeared to all men; For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.
12 Instructing us, that, denying ungodliness and worldly desires, we should live soberly, and justly, and godly in this world, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,
