1 But as for you, teach the things which are in agreement with sound doctrine [which produces men and women of good character whose lifestyle identifies them as true Christians]. But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine. You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine.
2 Older men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in steadfastness [Christlike in character]. Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness. Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.
3 Older women similarly are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor addicted to much wine, teaching what is right and good, Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good.
4 so that they may encourage the young women to tenderly love their husbands and their children, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children,
5 to be sensible, pure, makers of a home [where God is honored], good-natured, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored. to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled. to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.
6 In a similar way urge the young men to be sensible and self-controlled and to behave wisely [taking life seriously]. Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled. Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled.
7 And in all things show yourself to be an example of good works, with purity in doctrine [having the strictest regard for integrity and truth], dignified, Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness
8 sound and beyond reproach in instruction, so that the opponent [of the faith] will be shamed, having nothing bad to say about us. and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us. and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.
9 Urge bond-servants to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be pleasing and not talk back, Bondservants are to be submissive to their own masters in everything; they are to be well-pleasing, not argumentative, Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them,
10 not stealing [things, regardless of value], but proving themselves trustworthy, so that in every respect they will adorn and do credit to the teaching of God our Savior. not pilfering, but showing all good faith, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior. and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.
11 For the [remarkable, undeserved] grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.
12 It teaches us to reject ungodliness and worldly (immoral) desires, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives [with a purpose that reflect spiritual maturity] in this present age, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,
13 awaiting and confidently expecting the [fulfillment of our] blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,

15 Tell them these things. Encourage and rebuke with full authority. Let no one disregard or despise you [conduct yourself and your teaching so as to command respect].
