1 AND the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven upon the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. And the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star fallen from heaven to earth, and he was given the key to the shaft of the bottomless pit. The fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth. The star was given the key to the shaft of the Abyss.
2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as smoke belching from a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. He opened the shaft of the bottomless pit, and from the shaft rose smoke like the smoke of a great furnace, and the sun and the air were darkened with the smoke from the shaft. When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace. The sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss.
3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. Then from the smoke came locusts on the earth, and they were given power like the power of scorpions of the earth. And out of the smoke locusts came down on the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth.
4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree: but only those men who do not have the seal of God on their brows. They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any green plant or any tree, but only those people who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5 And they were commanded that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man. They will long to die, but death will flee from them. During those days people will seek death but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them.
7 And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared for battle; and on their heads were, as it were, crowns like gold, and their faces were as faces of men. In appearance the locusts were like horses prepared for battle: on their heads were what looked like crowns of gold; their faces were like human faces, The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. On their heads they wore something like crowns of gold, and their faces resembled human faces.
8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. their hair like women’s hair, and their teeth like lions’ teeth; Their hair was like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth.
9 And they had breastplates, as though they were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle. they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the noise of their wings was like the noise of many chariots with horses rushing into battle. They had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle.
10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and they had power to hurt men five months. They have tails and stings like scorpions, and their power to hurt people for five months is in their tails. They had tails with stingers, like scorpions, and in their tails they had power to torment people for five months.
11 And they had a king over them, who was the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is, A-bad’don, but in Greek his name is A-poll’yon. They have as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit. His name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he is called Apollyon. They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon and in Greek is Apollyon (that is, Destroyer).
12 The first woe is passed; and behold, two more woes follow after. The first woe has passed; behold, two woes are still to come. The first woe is past; two other woes are yet to come.
13 And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the horns of the golden altar which is before God, Then the sixth angel blew his trumpet, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar before God, The sixth angel sounded his trumpet, and I heard a voice coming from the four horns of the golden altar that is before God.
14 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound by the great river Euphrates. saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.” It said to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.”
15 And the four angels were loosed, those which were prepared for that hour, and for that day, and for that month, and for that year, so that they might slay the third part of men. So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour, the day, the month, and the year, were released to kill a third of mankind. And the four angels who had been kept ready for this very hour and day and month and year were released to kill a third of mankind.
16 And the number of the army of the horsemen was two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them. The number of mounted troops was twice ten thousand times ten thousand; I heard their number. The number of the mounted troops was twice ten thousand times ten thousand. I heard their number.
17 And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and those who sat on them, and they had breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and of brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions, and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone. And this is how I saw the horses in my vision and those who rode them: they wore breastplates the color of fire and of sapphire and of sulfur, and the heads of the horses were like lions’ heads, and fire and smoke and sulfur came out of their mouths. The horses and riders I saw in my vision looked like this: Their breastplates were fiery red, dark blue, and yellow as sulfur. The heads of the horses resembled the heads of lions, and out of their mouths came fire, smoke and sulfur.
18 And by these three plagues, was the third part of men slain, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths. By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed, by the fire and smoke and sulfur coming out of their mouths. A third of mankind was killed by the three plagues of fire, smoke and sulfur that came out of their mouths.
19 For the power of the horses was in their mouths, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents and had heads, and with them they do harm. For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails, for their tails are like serpents with heads, and by means of them they wound. The power of the horses was in their mouths and in their tails; for their tails were like snakes, having heads with which they inflict injury.
20 And the rest of the men who were not killed by these plagues, neither repented of the works of their hands, that is to say, the worship of devils and idols of gold and silver and brass and stone and of wood, which can neither see nor hear; The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands nor give up worshiping demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk, The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood—idols that cannot see or hear or walk.
21 Nor repented of their murders, nor of their witchcraft, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts. nor did they repent of their murders or their sorceries or their sexual immorality or their thefts. Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts.
