1 For the choir director. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph. A Song. God is known in Judah; His name is great in Israel. In Judah God is known; his name is great in Israel. For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm of Asaph. A song. God is renowned in Judah; in Israel his name is great.
2 So His tabernacle is in Salem; His dwelling place is in Zion. His abode has been established in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion. His tent is in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion.
3 There He broke the flaming arrows, The shield and the sword and the battle. Selah. There he broke the flashing arrows, the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war. Selah There he broke the flashing arrows, the shields and the swords, the weapons of war.
4 You are shining, Majestic from the mountains of prey. Glorious are you, more majestic than the mountains full of prey. You are radiant with light, more majestic than mountains rich with game.
5 The stouthearted were plundered, They sank into sleep; And none of the warriors could use his hands. The stouthearted were stripped of their spoil; they sank into sleep; all the men of war were unable to use their hands. The valiant lie plundered, they sleep their last sleep; not one of the warriors can lift his hands.
6 At Your rebuke, O God of Jacob, Both chariot rider and horse slumbered into a deep sleep. At your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both rider and horse lay stunned. At your rebuke, God of Jacob, both horse and chariot lie still.
7 But You, You are fearsome; And who can stand in Your presence when once You are angry? But you, you are to be feared! Who can stand before you when once your anger is roused? It is you alone who are to be feared. Who can stand before you when you are angry?
8 You made Your cause to be heard from heaven; The earth feared and was quiet From the heavens you uttered judgment; the earth feared and was still, From heaven you pronounced judgment, and the land feared and was quiet—
9 When God arose to judgment, To save all the humble of the earth. Selah. when God arose to establish judgment, to save all the humble of the earth. Selah when you, God, rose up to judge, to save all the afflicted of the land.
10 For the wrath of man shall praise You; With a remnant of wrath You will gird Yourself. Surely the wrath of man shall praise you; the remnant of wrath you will put on like a belt. Surely your wrath against mankind brings you praise, and the survivors of your wrath are restrained.
11 Make vows to Yahweh your God and pay them; Let all who are around Him bring gifts to the Fearsome One. Make your vows to the LORD your God and perform them; let all around him bring gifts to him who is to be feared, Make vows to the LORD your God and fulfill them; let all the neighboring lands bring gifts to the One to be feared.
12 He will cut off the spirit of princes; He is feared by the kings of the earth. who cuts off the spirit of princes, who is to be feared by the kings of the earth. He breaks the spirit of rulers; he is feared by the kings of the earth.
