For the choir director: with stringed instruments. A Maskil of David. God, listen to my prayer and do not hide from my plea for help. Give ear to my prayer, O God, and hide not yourself from my plea for mercy! For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A maskil of David. Listen to my prayer, O God, do not ignore my plea;
Pay attention to me and answer me. I am restless and in turmoil with my complaint, Attend to me, and answer me; I am restless in my complaint and I moan, hear me and answer me. My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught
because of the enemy’s words, because of the pressure of the wicked. For they bring down disaster on me and harass me in anger. because of the noise of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked. For they drop trouble upon me, and in anger they bear a grudge against me. because of what my enemy is saying, because of the threats of the wicked; for they bring down suffering on me and assail me in their anger.
My heart shudders within me; terrors of death sweep over me. My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death have fallen upon me. My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death have fallen on me.
Fear and trembling grip me; horror has overwhelmed me. Fear and trembling come upon me, and horror overwhelms me. Fear and trembling have beset me; horror has overwhelmed me.
I said, “If only I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and find rest. And I say, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest; I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.
How far away I would flee; I would stay in the wilderness. Selah yes, I would wander far away; I would lodge in the wilderness; Selah I would flee far away and stay in the desert;
I would hurry to my shelter from the raging wind and the storm.” I would hurry to find a shelter from the raging wind and tempest.” I would hurry to my place of shelter, far from the tempest and storm.”
Lord, confuse and confound their speech, for I see violence and strife in the city; Destroy, O Lord, divide their tongues; for I see violence and strife in the city. Lord, confuse the wicked, confound their words, for I see violence and strife in the city.
day and night they make the rounds on its walls. Crime and trouble are within it; Day and night they go around it on its walls, and iniquity and trouble are within it; Day and night they prowl about on its walls; malice and abuse are within it.
destruction is inside it; oppression and deceit never leave its marketplace. ruin is in its midst; oppression and fraud do not depart from its marketplace. Destructive forces are at work in the city; threats and lies never leave its streets.
Now it is not an enemy who insults me — otherwise I could bear it; it is not a foe who rises up against me — otherwise I could hide from him. For it is not an enemy who taunts me— then I could bear it; it is not an adversary who deals insolently with me— then I could hide from him. If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; if a foe were rising against me, I could hide.
But it is you, a man who is my peer, my companion and good friend! But it is you, a man, my equal, my companion, my familiar friend. But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend,
We used to have close fellowship; we walked with the crowd into the house of God. We used to take sweet counsel together; within God’s house we walked in the throng. with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship at the house of God, as we walked about among the worshipers.
Let death take them by surprise; let them go down to Sheol alive, because evil is in their homes and within them. Let death steal over them; let them go down to Sheol alive; for evil is in their dwelling place and in their heart. Let death take my enemies by surprise; let them go down alive to the realm of the dead, for evil finds lodging among them.
But I call to God, and the LORD will save me. But I call to God, and the LORD will save me. As for me, I call to God, and the LORD saves me.
I complain and groan morning, noon, and night, and he hears my voice. Evening and morning and at noon I utter my complaint and moan, and he hears my voice. Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice.
Though many are against me, he will redeem me from my battle unharmed. He redeems my soul in safety from the battle that I wage, for many are arrayed against me. He rescues me unharmed from the battle waged against me, even though many oppose me.
God, the one enthroned from long ago, will hear and will humiliate them Selah because they do not change and do not fear God. God will give ear and humble them, he who is enthroned from of old, Selah because they do not change and do not fear God. God, who is enthroned from of old, who does not change— he will hear them and humble them, because they have no fear of God.
My friend acts violently against those at peace with him; he violates his covenant. My companion stretched out his hand against his friends; he violated his covenant. My companion attacks his friends; he violates his covenant.
His buttery words are smooth, but war is in his heart. His words are softer than oil, but they are drawn swords. His speech was smooth as butter, yet war was in his heart; his words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords. His talk is smooth as butter, yet war is in his heart; his words are more soothing than oil, yet they are drawn swords.
Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never allow the righteous to be shaken. Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved. Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.
God, you will bring them down to the Pit of destruction; men of bloodshed and treachery will not live out half their days. But I will trust in you. But you, O God, will cast them down into the pit of destruction; men of blood and treachery shall not live out half their days. But I will trust in you. But you, God, will bring down the wicked into the pit of decay; the bloodthirsty and deceitful will not live out half their days. But as for me, I trust in you.
