1 Unto the end, understanding for David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul David went to the house of Achimelech Why dost thou glory in malice, thou that art mighty in iniquity? Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man? The steadfast love of God endures all the day. For the director of music. A maskil of David. When Doeg the Edomite had gone to Saul and told him: “David has gone to the house of Ahimelek.” Why do you boast of evil, you mighty hero? Why do you boast all day long, you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God?
2 All the day long thy tongue hath devised injustice: as a sharp razor, thou hast wrought deceit. Your tongue plots destruction, like a sharp razor, you worker of deceit. You who practice deceit, your tongue plots destruction; it is like a sharpened razor.
3 Thou hast loved malice more than goodness: and iniquity rather than to speak righteousness. You love evil more than good, and lying more than speaking what is right. Selah You love evil rather than good, falsehood rather than speaking the truth.
4 Thou hast loved all the words of ruin, O deceitful tongue. You love all words that devour, O deceitful tongue. You love every harmful word, you deceitful tongue!
5 Therefore will God destroy thee for ever: he will pluck thee out, and remove thee from thy dwelling place: and thy root out of the land of the living. But God will break you down forever; he will snatch and tear you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin: He will snatch you up and pluck you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living.
6 The just shall see and fear, and shall laugh at him, and say: The righteous shall see and fear, and shall laugh at him, saying, The righteous will see and fear; they will laugh at you, saying,
7 Behold the man that made not God his helper: But trusted in the abundance of his riches: and prevailed in his vanity. “See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and sought refuge in his own destruction!” “Here now is the man who did not make God his stronghold but trusted in his great wealth and grew strong by destroying others!”
8 But I, as a fruitful olive tree in the house of God, have hoped in the mercy of God for ever, yea for ever and ever. But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever. But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.
9 I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name, for it is good in the sight of thy saints. I will thank you forever, because you have done it. I will wait for your name, for it is good, in the presence of the godly. For what you have done I will always praise you in the presence of your faithful people. And I will hope in your name, for your name is good.
