1 Unto the end, in verses. A psalm of David. When I called upon him, the God of my justice heard me: when I was in distress, thou hast enlarged me. Have mercy on me: and hear my prayer. Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have given me relief when I was in distress. Be gracious to me and hear my prayer! For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm of David. Answer me when I call to you, my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer.
2 O ye sons of men, how long will you be dull of heart? why do you love vanity, and seek after lying? O men, how long shall my honor be turned into shame? How long will you love vain words and seek after lies? Selah How long will you people turn my glory into shame? How long will you love delusions and seek false gods
3 Know ye also that the Lord hath made his holy one wonderful: the Lord will hear me when I shall cry unto him. But know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD hears when I call to him. Know that the LORD has set apart his faithful servant for himself; the LORD hears when I call to him.
4 Be angry, and sin not: the things you say in your hearts, be sorry for them upon your beds. Be angry, and do not sin; ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent. Selah Tremble and do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent.
5 Offer up the sacrifice of justice, and trust in the Lord: many say, Who sheweth us good things? Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the LORD. Offer the sacrifices of the righteous and trust in the LORD.
6 The light of thy countenance O Lord, is signed upon us: thou hast given gladness in my heart. There are many who say, “Who will show us some good? Lift up the light of your face upon us, O LORD!” Many, LORD, are asking, “Who will bring us prosperity?” Let the light of your face shine on us.
7 By the fruit of their corn, their wine and oil, they are multiplied. You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound. Fill my heart with joy when their grain and new wine abound.
8 In peace in the selfsame I will sleep, and I will rest: for thou, O Lord, singularly hast settled me in hope. In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety. In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.
