A Psalm of David for remembrance concerning the Sabbath-day. O Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath, neither chasten me in thine anger. O LORD, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath! A psalm of David. A petition. LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.
For thy weapons are fixed in me, and thou hast pressed thy hand heavily upon me. For your arrows have sunk into me, and your hand has come down on me. Your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down on me.
For there is no health in my flesh because of thine anger; there is no peace to my bones because of my sins. There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation; there is no health in my bones because of my sin. Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; there is no soundness in my bones because of my sin.
For my transgressions have gone over mine head: they have pressed heavily upon me like a weighty burden. For my iniquities have gone over my head; like a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me. My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear.
My bruises have become noisome and corrupt, because of my foolishness. My wounds stink and fester because of my foolishness, My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly.
I have been wretched and bowed down continually: I went with a mourning countenance all the day. I am utterly bowed down and prostrate; all the day I go about mourning. I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning.
For my soul is filled with mockings; and there is no health in my flesh. For my sides are filled with burning, and there is no soundness in my flesh. My back is filled with searing pain; there is no health in my body.
I have been afflicted and brought down exceedingly: I have roared for the groaning of my heart. I am feeble and crushed; I groan because of the tumult of my heart. I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart.
But all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hidden from thee. O Lord, all my longing is before you; my sighing is not hidden from you. All my longings lie open before you, Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you.
My heart is troubled, my strength has failed me; and the light of mine eyes is not with me. My heart throbs; my strength fails me, and the light of my eyes—it also has gone from me. My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes.
My friends and my neighbours drew near before me, and stood still; and my nearest of kin stood afar off. My friends and companions stand aloof from my plague, and my nearest kin stand far off. My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away.
While they pressed hard upon me that sought my soul: and they that sought my hurt spoke vanities, and devised deceits all the day. Those who seek my life lay their snares; those who seek my hurt speak of ruin and meditate treachery all day long. Those who want to kill me set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they scheme and lie.
But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and was as a dumb man not opening his mouth. But I am like a deaf man; I do not hear, like a mute man who does not open his mouth. I am like the deaf, who cannot hear, like the mute, who cannot speak;
And I was as a man that hears not, and who has no reproofs in his mouth. I have become like a man who does not hear, and in whose mouth are no rebukes. I have become like one who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply.
For I hoped in thee, O Lord: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God. But for you, O LORD, do I wait; it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer. LORD, I wait for you; you will answer, Lord my God.
For I said, Lest mine enemies rejoice against me: for when my feet were moved, they spoke boastingly against me. For I said, “Only let them not rejoice over me, who boast against me when my foot slips!” For I said, “Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when my feet slip.”
For I am ready for plagues, and my grief is continually before me. For I am ready to fall, and my pain is ever before me. For I am about to fall, and my pain is ever with me.
For I will declare mine iniquity, and be distressed for my sin. I confess my iniquity; I am sorry for my sin. I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin.
But mine enemies live, and are mightier than I: and they that hate me unjustly are multiplied. But my foes are vigorous, they are mighty, and many are those who hate me wrongfully. Many have become my enemies without cause; those who hate me without reason are numerous.
They that reward evil for good slandered me; because I followed righteousness. Those who render me evil for good accuse me because I follow after good. Those who repay my good with evil lodge accusations against me, though I seek only to do what is good.
Forsake me not, O Lord my God: depart not from me. Do not forsake me, O LORD! O my God, be not far from me! LORD, do not forsake me; do not be far from me, my God.
Draw nigh to my help, O Lord of my salvation. Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation! Come quickly to help me, my Lord and my Savior.
