A psalm of David, written to get God's attention. O LORD, do not continue to rebuke me in your anger! Do not continue to punish me in your raging fury! O LORD, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath! A psalm of David. A petition. LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.
For your arrows pierce me, and your hand presses me down. For your arrows have sunk into me, and your hand has come down on me. Your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down on me.
My whole body is sick because of your judgment; I am deprived of health because of my sin. There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation; there is no health in my bones because of my sin. Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; there is no soundness in my bones because of my sin.
For my sins overwhelm me; like a heavy load, they are too much for me to bear. For my iniquities have gone over my head; like a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me. My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear.
My wounds are infected and starting to smell, because of my foolish sins. My wounds stink and fester because of my foolishness, My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly.
I am dazed and completely humiliated; all day long I walk around mourning. I am utterly bowed down and prostrate; all the day I go about mourning. I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning.
For I am overcome with shame and my whole body is sick. For my sides are filled with burning, and there is no soundness in my flesh. My back is filled with searing pain; there is no health in my body.
I am numb with pain and severely battered; I groan loudly because of the anxiety I feel. I am feeble and crushed; I groan because of the tumult of my heart. I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart.
O Lord, you understand my heart's desire; my groaning is not hidden from you. O Lord, all my longing is before you; my sighing is not hidden from you. All my longings lie open before you, Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you.
My heart beats quickly; my strength leaves me; I can hardly see. My heart throbs; my strength fails me, and the light of my eyes—it also has gone from me. My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes.
Because of my condition, even my friends and acquaintances keep their distance; my neighbors stand far away. My friends and companions stand aloof from my plague, and my nearest kin stand far off. My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away.
Those who seek my life try to entrap me; those who want to harm me speak destructive words; all day long they say deceitful things. Those who seek my life lay their snares; those who seek my hurt speak of ruin and meditate treachery all day long. Those who want to kill me set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they scheme and lie.
But I am like a deaf man--I hear nothing; I am like a mute who cannot speak. But I am like a deaf man; I do not hear, like a mute man who does not open his mouth. I am like the deaf, who cannot hear, like the mute, who cannot speak;
I am like a man who cannot hear and is incapable of arguing his defense. I have become like a man who does not hear, and in whose mouth are no rebukes. I have become like one who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply.
Yet I wait for you, O LORD! You will respond, O Lord, my God! But for you, O LORD, do I wait; it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer. LORD, I wait for you; you will answer, Lord my God.
I have prayed for deliverance, because otherwise they will gloat over me; when my foot slips they will arrogantly taunt me. For I said, “Only let them not rejoice over me, who boast against me when my foot slips!” For I said, “Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when my feet slip.”
For I am about to stumble, and I am in constant pain. For I am ready to fall, and my pain is ever before me. For I am about to fall, and my pain is ever with me.
Yes, I confess my wrongdoing, and I am concerned about my sins. I confess my iniquity; I am sorry for my sin. I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin.
But those who are my enemies for no reason are numerous; those who hate me without cause outnumber me. But my foes are vigorous, they are mighty, and many are those who hate me wrongfully. Many have become my enemies without cause; those who hate me without reason are numerous.
They repay me evil for the good I have done; though I have tried to do good to them, they hurl accusations at me. Those who render me evil for good accuse me because I follow after good. Those who repay my good with evil lodge accusations against me, though I seek only to do what is good.
Do not abandon me, O LORD! My God, do not remain far away from me! Do not forsake me, O LORD! O my God, be not far from me! LORD, do not forsake me; do not be far from me, my God.
Hurry and help me, O Lord, my deliverer! Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation! Come quickly to help me, my Lord and my Savior.
