1 For the music director; written by the LORD's servant, David; an oracle. An evil man is rebellious to the core. He does not fear God, Transgression speaks to the wicked deep in his heart; there is no fear of God before his eyes. For the director of music. Of David the servant of the LORD. I have a message from God in my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before their eyes.
2 for he is too proud to recognize and give up his sin. For he flatters himself in his own eyes that his iniquity cannot be found out and hated. In their own eyes they flatter themselves too much to detect or hate their sin.
3 The words he speaks are sinful and deceitful; he does not care about doing what is wise and right. The words of his mouth are trouble and deceit; he has ceased to act wisely and do good. The words of their mouths are wicked and deceitful; they fail to act wisely or do good.
4 He plans ways to sin while he lies in bed; he is committed to a sinful lifestyle; he does not reject what is evil. He plots trouble while on his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he does not reject evil. Even on their beds they plot evil; they commit themselves to a sinful course and do not reject what is wrong.
5 O LORD, your loyal love reaches to the sky; your faithfulness to the clouds. Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.
6 Your justice is like the highest mountains, your fairness like the deepest sea; you preserve mankind and the animal kingdom. Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the great deep; man and beast you save, O LORD. Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep. You, LORD, preserve both people and animals.
7 How precious is your loyal love, O God! The human race finds shelter under your wings. How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings. How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
8 They are filled with food from your house, and you allow them to drink from the river of your delicacies. They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights.
9 For you are the one who gives and sustains life. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.
10 Extend your loyal love to your faithful followers, and vindicate the morally upright! Oh, continue your steadfast love to those who know you, and your righteousness to the upright of heart! Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart.
11 Do not let arrogant men overtake me, or let evil men make me homeless! Let not the foot of arrogance come upon me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away.
12 I can see the evildoers! They have fallen! They have been knocked down and are unable to get up! There the evildoers lie fallen; they are thrust down, unable to rise. See how the evildoers lie fallen— thrown down, not able to rise!
