1 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD. The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, There is no fear of God before his eyes. Transgression speaks to the wicked deep in his heart; there is no fear of God before his eyes. For the director of music. Of David the servant of the LORD. I have a message from God in my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before their eyes.
2 For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, that his iniquity shall not be found out and be hated. For he flatters himself in his own eyes that his iniquity cannot be found out and hated. In their own eyes they flatter themselves too much to detect or hate their sin.
3 The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to be wise and to do good. The words of his mouth are trouble and deceit; he has ceased to act wisely and do good. The words of their mouths are wicked and deceitful; they fail to act wisely or do good.
4 He deviseth iniquity upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil. He plots trouble while on his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he does not reject evil. Even on their beds they plot evil; they commit themselves to a sinful course and do not reject what is wrong.
5 Thy lovingkindness, O LORD, is in the heavens; thy faithfulness reacheth unto the skies. Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.
6 Thy righteousness is like the mountains of God; thy judgments are a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast. Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the great deep; man and beast you save, O LORD. Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep. You, LORD, preserve both people and animals.
7 How precious is thy lovingkindness, O God! and the children of men take refuge under the shadow of thy wings. How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings. How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures. They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights.
9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.
10 O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart. Oh, continue your steadfast love to those who know you, and your righteousness to the upright of heart! Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart.
11 Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked drive me away. Let not the foot of arrogance come upon me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away.
12 There are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are thrust down, and shall not be able to rise. There the evildoers lie fallen; they are thrust down, unable to rise. See how the evildoers lie fallen— thrown down, not able to rise!
