A contemplation by David, when he was in the cave. A Prayer. I cry with my voice to Yahweh. With my voice, I ask Yahweh for mercy. With my voice I cry out to the LORD; with my voice I plead for mercy to the LORD. A maskil of David. When he was in the cave. A prayer. I cry aloud to the LORD; I lift up my voice to the LORD for mercy.
I pour out my complaint before him. I tell him my troubles. I pour out my complaint before him; I tell my trouble before him. I pour out before him my complaint; before him I tell my trouble.
When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, you knew my route. On the path in which I walk, they have hidden a snare for me. When my spirit faints within me, you know my way! In the path where I walk they have hidden a trap for me. When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you who watch over my way. In the path where I walk people have hidden a snare for me.
Look on my right, and see; for there is no one who is concerned for me. Refuge has fled from me. No one cares for my soul. Look to the right and see: there is none who takes notice of me; no refuge remains to me; no one cares for my soul. Look and see, there is no one at my right hand; no one is concerned for me. I have no refuge; no one cares for my life.
I cried to you, Yahweh. I said, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” I cry to you, O LORD; I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” I cry to you, LORD; I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.”
Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need. Deliver me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me. Attend to my cry, for I am brought very low! Deliver me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me! Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need; rescue me from those who pursue me, for they are too strong for me.
Bring my soul out of prison, that I may give thanks to your name. The righteous will surround me, for you will be good to me. Bring me out of prison, that I may give thanks to your name! The righteous will surround me, for you will deal bountifully with me. Set me free from my prison, that I may praise your name. Then the righteous will gather about me because of your goodness to me.
