[A [maskil] by David when he was in the cave; a prayer.] Loudly, I cry to the LORD. Loudly, I plead with the LORD for mercy. With my voice I cry out to the LORD; with my voice I plead for mercy to the LORD. A maskil of David. When he was in the cave. A prayer. I cry aloud to the LORD; I lift up my voice to the LORD for mercy.
I pour out my complaints in his presence and tell him my troubles. I pour out my complaint before him; I tell my trouble before him. I pour out before him my complaint; before him I tell my trouble.
When I begin to lose hope, you [already] know what I am experiencing. [My enemies] have hidden a trap for me on the path where I walk. When my spirit faints within me, you know my way! In the path where I walk they have hidden a trap for me. When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you who watch over my way. In the path where I walk people have hidden a snare for me.
Look to my right and see that no one notices me. Escape is impossible for me. No one cares about me. Look to the right and see: there is none who takes notice of me; no refuge remains to me; no one cares for my soul. Look and see, there is no one at my right hand; no one is concerned for me. I have no refuge; no one cares for my life.
I call out to you, O LORD. I say, |You are my refuge, my own inheritance in this world of the living.| I cry to you, O LORD; I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” I cry to you, LORD; I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.”
Pay attention to my cry for help because I am very weak. Rescue me from those who pursue me because they are too strong for me. Attend to my cry, for I am brought very low! Deliver me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me! Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need; rescue me from those who pursue me, for they are too strong for me.
Release my soul from prison so that I may give thanks to your name. Righteous people will surround me because you are good to me. Bring me out of prison, that I may give thanks to your name! The righteous will surround me, for you will deal bountifully with me. Set me free from my prison, that I may praise your name. Then the righteous will gather about me because of your goodness to me.
