A SONG OF THE ASCENTS. Remember, YHWH, for David, all his afflictions; Remember, O LORD, in David’s favor, all the hardships he endured, A song of ascents. LORD, remember David and all his self-denial.
Who has sworn to YHWH, || He has vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob: how he swore to the LORD and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob, He swore an oath to the LORD, he made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:
“If I enter into the tent of my house, || If I go up on the couch of my bed, “I will not enter my house or get into my bed, “I will not enter my house or go to my bed,
If I give sleep to my eyes, || To my eyelids—slumber, I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, I will allow no sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids,
Until I find a place for YHWH, dwelling places for the Mighty One of Jacob.” until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.” till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”
Behold, we have heard it in Ephratah, || We have found it in the fields of the forest. Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar. We heard it in Ephrathah, we came upon it in the fields of Jaar:
We come into His dwelling places, || We bow ourselves at His footstool. “Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool!” “Let us go to his dwelling place, let us worship at his footstool, saying,
Arise, O YHWH, to Your rest, || You, and the Ark of Your strength, Arise, O LORD, and go to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. Arise, LORD, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might.
Your priests put on righteousness, || And Your pious ones cry aloud. Let your priests be clothed with righteousness, and let your saints shout for joy. May your priests be clothed with your righteousness; may your faithful people sing for joy.’”
For the sake of Your servant David, || Do not turn back the face of Your anointed. For the sake of your servant David, do not turn away the face of your anointed one. For the sake of your servant David, do not reject your anointed one.
YHWH has sworn truth to David, || He does not turn back from it: “Of the fruit of your body, || I set on the throne for you. The LORD swore to David a sure oath from which he will not turn back: “One of the sons of your body I will set on your throne. The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath he will not revoke: “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne.
If your sons keep My covenant, || And My testimonies that I teach them, || Their sons also forever and ever || Sit on the throne for you.” If your sons keep my covenant and my testimonies that I shall teach them, their sons also forever shall sit on your throne.” If your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne for ever and ever.”
For YHWH has fixed on Zion, || He has desired [it] for a seat to Himself, For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his dwelling place: For the LORD has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling, saying,
“This [is] My rest forever and ever, || Here I sit, for I have desired it. “This is my resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it. “This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it.
I greatly bless her provision, || I satisfy her poor [with] bread, I will abundantly bless her provisions; I will satisfy her poor with bread. I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor I will satisfy with food.
And I clothe her priests [with] salvation, || And her pious ones sing aloud. Her priests I will clothe with salvation, and her saints will shout for joy. I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her faithful people will ever sing for joy.
There I cause a horn to spring up for David, || I have arranged a lamp for My Anointed. There I will make a horn to sprout for David; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed. “Here I will make a horn grow for David and set up a lamp for my anointed one.
I clothe His enemies [with] shame, || And His crown flourishes on Him!” His enemies I will clothe with shame, but on him his crown will shine.” I will clothe his enemies with shame, but his head will be adorned with a radiant crown.”
