<V 119:1>A Canticle in steps. When troubled, I cried out to the Lord, and he heard me. In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. A song of ascents. I call on the LORD in my distress, and he answers me.
<V 119:2>O Lord, free my soul from lips of iniquity and from the deceitful tongue. Deliver me, O LORD, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue. Save me, LORD, from lying lips and from deceitful tongues.
<V 119:3>What will be given to you, or what will be added to you, for a deceitful tongue?: What shall be given to you, and what more shall be done to you, you deceitful tongue? What will he do to you, and what more besides, you deceitful tongue?
<V 119:4>the sharp arrows of the powerful, along with the burning coals of desolation. A warrior’s sharp arrows, with glowing coals of the broom tree! He will punish you with a warrior’s sharp arrows, with burning coals of the broom bush.
<V 119:5>Woe to me, for my sojourning has been prolonged. I have lived with the inhabitants of Kedar. Woe to me, that I sojourn in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar! Woe to me that I dwell in Meshek, that I live among the tents of Kedar!
<V 119:6>My soul has long been a sojourner. Too long have I had my dwelling among those who hate peace. Too long have I lived among those who hate peace.
<V 119:7>With those who hated peace, I was peaceful. When I spoke to them, they fought against me without cause. I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war! I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.
