1 When Israel left Egypt, when Jacob's family left people who spoke a foreign language, When Israel went out from Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language, When Israel came out of Egypt, Jacob from a people of foreign tongue,
2 Judah became his holy place and Israel became his kingdom. Judah became his sanctuary, Israel his dominion. Judah became God’s sanctuary, Israel his dominion.
3 The Red Sea looked at this and ran away. The Jordan River turned back. The sea looked and fled; Jordan turned back. The sea looked and fled, the Jordan turned back;
4 The mountains jumped like rams. The hills jumped like lambs. The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs. the mountains leaped like rams, the hills like lambs.
5 Red Sea, why did you run away? Jordan River, what made you turn back? What ails you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back? Why was it, sea, that you fled? Why, Jordan, did you turn back?
6 Mountains, what made you jump like rams? Hills, what made you jump like lambs? O mountains, that you skip like rams? O hills, like lambs? Why, mountains, did you leap like rams, you hills, like lambs?
7 Earth, tremble in the presence of the Lord, in the presence of the God of Jacob. Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob, Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,
8 He turns a rock into a pool filled with water and turns flint into a spring flowing with water. who turns the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a spring of water. who turned the rock into a pool, the hard rock into springs of water.
