1 A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, But a just weight is His delight. A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, but a just weight is his delight. The LORD detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him.
2 When pride comes, then comes dishonor; But with the humble there is wisdom. When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom. When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
3 The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the perversity of the treacherous will destroy them. The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them. The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.
4 Riches do not benefit on the day of wrath, But righteousness rescues from death. Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.
5 The righteousness of the blameless will smooth his way, But the wicked will fall by his own wickedness. 8 The righteous is rescued from trouble, But the wicked takes his place. The righteous is delivered from trouble, and the wicked walks into it instead. The righteous person is rescued from trouble, and it falls on the wicked instead.
9 With his mouth the godless person destroys his neighbor, But through knowledge the righteous will be rescued. With his mouth the godless man would destroy his neighbor, but by knowledge the righteous are delivered. With their mouths the godless destroy their neighbors, but through knowledge the righteous escape.
10 When things go well for the righteous, the city rejoices, And when the wicked perish, there is joyful shouting. When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices, and when the wicked perish there are shouts of gladness. When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.
11 By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, But by the mouth of the wicked, it is torn down. 13 One who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets, But one who is trustworthy conceals a matter. Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a thing covered. A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.
14 Where there is no guidance the people fall, But in an abundance of counselors there is victory. Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety. For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.
15 One who is a guarantor for a stranger will certainly suffer for it, But one who hates being a guarantor is secure. Whoever puts up security for a stranger will surely suffer harm, but he who hates striking hands in pledge is secure. Whoever puts up security for a stranger will surely suffer, but whoever refuses to shake hands in pledge is safe.
16 A gracious woman attains honor, And ruthless men attain riches. A gracious woman gets honor, and violent men get riches. A kindhearted woman gains honor, but ruthless men gain only wealth.
17 A merciful person does himself good, But the cruel person does himself harm. A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself. Those who are kind benefit themselves, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves.
18 A wicked person earns deceptive wages, But one who sows righteousness gets a true reward. The wicked earns deceptive wages, but one who sows righteousness gets a sure reward. A wicked person earns deceptive wages, but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.
19 One who is steadfast in righteousness attains life, But one who pursues evil attains his own death. Whoever is steadfast in righteousness will live, but he who pursues evil will die. Truly the righteous attain life, but whoever pursues evil finds death.
20 The perverse in heart are an abomination to the LORD, But the blameless in their walk are His delight. Those of crooked heart are an abomination to the LORD, but those of blameless ways are his delight. The LORD detests those whose hearts are perverse, but he delights in those whose ways are blameless.
21 Be assured, the evil person will not go unpunished, But the descendants of the righteous will be rescued. Be assured, an evil person will not go unpunished, but the offspring of the righteous will be delivered. Be sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished, but those who are righteous will go free.
22 As a ring of gold in a pig’s snout So is a beautiful woman who lacks discretion. Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman without discretion. Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.
23 The desire of the righteous is only good, But the expectation of the wicked is wrath. The desire of the righteous ends only in good, the expectation of the wicked in wrath. The desire of the righteous ends only in good, but the hope of the wicked only in wrath.
24 There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more, And there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in poverty. One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want. One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
25 A generous person will be prosperous, And one who gives others plenty of water will himself be given plenty. Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
26 One who withholds grain, the people will curse him, But blessing will be on the head of him who sells it. The people curse him who holds back grain, but a blessing is on the head of him who sells it. People curse the one who hoards grain, but they pray God’s blessing on the one who is willing to sell.
27 One who diligently seeks good seeks favor, But one who seeks evil, evil will come to him. Whoever diligently seeks good seeks favor, but evil comes to him who searches for it. Whoever seeks good finds favor, but evil comes to one who searches for it.
28 One who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like the green leaf. Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf. Those who trust in their riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.
29 One who troubles his own house will inherit wind, And the foolish will be servant to the wise-hearted. Whoever troubles his own household will inherit the wind, and the fool will be servant to the wise of heart. Whoever brings ruin on their family will inherit only wind, and the fool will be servant to the wise.
30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And one who is wise gains souls. The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and whoever captures souls is wise. The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who is wise saves lives.
31 If the righteous will be repaid on the earth, How much more the wicked and the sinner! If the righteous is repaid on earth, how much more the wicked and the sinner! If the righteous receive their due on earth, how much more the ungodly and the sinner!
