1 A WISE son makes his father glad, but a foolish son brings shame to his mother. The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother. The proverbs of Solomon: A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.
2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing; but righteousness delivers from death. Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death. Ill-gotten treasures have no lasting value, but righteousness delivers from death.

8 The wise in heart will receive commandments; but one whose lips are full of folly shall be caught. The wise of heart will receive commandments, but a babbling fool will come to ruin. The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin.
9 He who walks uprightly walks in hope; but he who perverts his ways shall be known. Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out. Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.
10 He who winks with his eyes deceitfully causes sorrow; but he who reproves openly makes peace. Whoever winks the eye causes trouble, and a babbling fool will come to ruin. Whoever winks maliciously causes grief, and a chattering fool comes to ruin.
11 The mouth of a righteous man is a fountain of life; but the mouth of the wicked is covered with iniquity. 16 The labor of the righteous tends to life; the harvest of the wicked to sin. The wage of the righteous leads to life, the gain of the wicked to sin. The wages of the righteous is life, but the earnings of the wicked are sin and death.
17 The true way of life brings discipline; but he who hates reproof is a fool. Whoever heeds instruction is on the path to life, but he who rejects reproof leads others astray. Whoever heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray.
18 The lips of the wicked are full of deceits, and he who utters a curse is a fool. The one who conceals hatred has lying lips, and whoever utters slander is a fool. Whoever conceals hatred with lying lips and spreads slander is a fool.
19 The wicked cannot be delivered by a multitude of words; but he who refrains his lips is wise. When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent. Sin is not ended by multiplying words, but the prudent hold their tongues.
20 The tongue of the righteous is like choice silver; the heart of the wicked is full of bitterness. The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; the heart of the wicked is of little worth. The tongue of the righteous is choice silver, but the heart of the wicked is of little value.

24 The wicked shall be dragged to ruin; but the desire of the righteous shall be granted. What the wicked dreads will come upon him, but the desire of the righteous will be granted. What the wicked dread will overtake them; what the righteous desire will be granted.
25 As the whirlwind passes suddenly, so wicked men shall perish and be no more; but the righteous are an everlasting foundation. When the tempest passes, the wicked is no more, but the righteous is established forever. When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever.
26 As unripe grapes are hurtful to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so does wickedness hurt those who indulge in it. Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him. As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so are sluggards to those who send them.
27 Reverence for the LORD prolongs life; but the years of the wicked shall be shortened. The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be short. The fear of the LORD adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.
28 The hope of the righteous shall be gladness; but the expectation of the wicked shall perish. The hope of the righteous brings joy, but the expectation of the wicked will perish. The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.
29 The way of the LORD is strength to the upright; but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity. The way of the LORD is a stronghold to the blameless, but destruction to evildoers. The way of the LORD is a refuge for the blameless, but it is the ruin of those who do evil.
30 The righteous shall never be removed; but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth. The righteous will never be removed, but the wicked will not dwell in the land. The righteous will never be uprooted, but the wicked will not remain in the land.
31 The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom; but a perverse tongue shall be silenced. The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut off. From the mouth of the righteous comes the fruit of wisdom, but a perverse tongue will be silenced.
32 The lips of the righteous know what is good; but the mouth of the wicked speaks perverse things. The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked, what is perverse. The lips of the righteous know what finds favor, but the mouth of the wicked only what is perverse.
