And they come, bringing to Him a paralytic, being carried by four. And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them.
And not being able to bring him to Him through the crowd, they unroofed the roof where He was, and having dug it out, they let down the mat on which the paralytic was lying. And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on.
And Jesus, having seen their faith, says to the paralytic, “Child, your sins are forgiven.” And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
But there were some of the scribes sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves,
“Why does this man speak thus? He blasphemes! Who is able to forgive sins except One—God?” “Why does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
And immediately Jesus, having known in His spirit that they are reasoning thus in themselves, says to them, “Why do you⁺ reason these things in your⁺ hearts? And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, “Why do you question these things in your hearts? Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things?
Which is easier: to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Arise, and take up your mat, and walk’? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise, take up your bed and walk’? Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’?
But so that you⁺ may know that the Son of Man has authority to forgive sins on the earth...” He says to the paralytic, But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the paralytic— But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man,
“I say to you, arise, take up your mat, and go to your house.” “I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home.” “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.”
And he arose, and immediately, having taken up the mat, he went out before all, so as for all to be amazed and to glorify God, saying, “Never thus did we see!” And he rose and immediately picked up his bed and went out before them all, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!” He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”
