From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry. | |
And You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the current surrounded me; all Your billows and Your waves passed over me. | For you cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the flood surrounded me; all your waves and your billows passed over me. | You hurled me into the depths, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. |
And I said, ‘I have been driven out from before Your eyes; yet I will add to look toward the temple of Your holiness.’ | Then I said, ‘I am driven away from your sight; yet I shall again look upon your holy temple.’ | I said, ‘I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.’ |
The waters surrounded me up to the soul, the deep closed around me, the seaweed wrapped around my head. | The waters closed in over me to take my life; the deep surrounded me; weeds were wrapped about my head | The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. |
To the bases of the mountains I went down; the earth with her bars was behind me forever. And You brought up my life from the pit, O YHWH my God. | at the roots of the mountains. I went down to the land whose bars closed upon me forever; yet you brought up my life from the pit, O LORD my God. | To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you, LORD my God, brought my life up from the pit. |
At the fainting within me of my soul, I remembered YHWH; my prayer came in to You, to the temple of Your holiness. | When my life was fainting away, I remembered the LORD, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple. | “When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, LORD, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple. |
Those guarding vanities of worthlessness leave behind their loving devotion. | Those who pay regard to vain idols forsake their hope of steadfast love. | “Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them. |
And I, with a voice of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to You; what I have vowed, I will fulfill. Salvation is of YHWH.” | But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Salvation belongs to the LORD!” | But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, ‘Salvation comes from the LORD.’” |
And YHWH spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto the dry land. | And the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah out upon the dry land. | And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land. |
