1 Then Job answered the Lord, and said : Then Job answered the LORD and said: Then Job replied to the LORD:
2 I know that thou canst do all things, and no thought is hid from thee. “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. “I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
3 Who is this that hideth counsel without knowledge? Therefore I have spoken unwisely, and things that above measure exceeded my knowledge. ‘Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?’ Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’ Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.
4 Hear, and I will speak : I will ask thee, and do thou tell me. ‘Hear, and I will speak; I will question you, and you make it known to me.’ “You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you shall answer me.’
5 With the hearing of the ear, I have heard thee, but now my eye seeth thee. I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you; My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.
6 Therefore I reprehend myself, and do penance in dust and ashes. therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes.” Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.”
7 And after the Lord had spoken these words to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Themanite : My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends, because you have not spoken the thing that is right before my, as my servant Job hath. After the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite: “My anger burns against you and against your two friends, for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has. After the LORD had said these things to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has.
8 Take unto you therefore seven oxen, and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer for yourselves a holocaust : and my servant Job shall pray for you : his face I will accept, that folly be not imputed to you : for you have not spoken right things before me, as my servant Job hath. Now therefore take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and offer up a burnt offering for yourselves. And my servant Job shall pray for you, for I will accept his prayer not to deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has.” So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has.”
9 So Eliphaz the Themanite, and Baldad the Suhite, and Sophar the Naamathite went, and did as the Lord had spoken to them, and the Lord accepted the face of Job. So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went and did what the LORD had told them, and the LORD accepted Job’s prayer. So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite did what the LORD told them; and the LORD accepted Job’s prayer.
10 The Lord also was turned at the penance of Job, when he prayed for his friends. And the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. And the LORD restored the fortunes of Job, when he had prayed for his friends. And the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before. After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before.
11 And all his brethren came to him, and all his sisters, and all that knew him before, and they ate bread with him in his house : and bemoaned him, and comforted him upon all the evil that God had brought upon him. And every man gave him one ewe, and one earring of fold. Then came to him all his brothers and sisters and all who had known him before, and ate bread with him in his house. And they showed him sympathy and comforted him for all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him. And each of them gave him a piece of money and a ring of gold. All his brothers and sisters and everyone who had known him before came and ate with him in his house. They comforted and consoled him over all the trouble the LORD had brought on him, and each one gave him a piece of silver and a gold ring.
12 And the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning. And he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses. And the LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning. And he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys. The LORD blessed the latter part of Job’s life more than the former part. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys.
13 And he had seven sons, and three daughters. He had also seven sons and three daughters. And he also had seven sons and three daughters.
14 And he called the names of one Dies, and the name of the second Cassia, and the name of the third Cornustibil. And he called the name of the first daughter Jemimah, and the name of the second Keziah, and the name of the third Keren-happuch. The first daughter he named Jemimah, the second Keziah and the third Keren-Happuch.
15 And there were not found in all the earth women so beautiful as the daughters of Job : and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren. And in all the land there were no women so beautiful as Job’s daughters. And their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers. Nowhere in all the land were there found women as beautiful as Job’s daughters, and their father granted them an inheritance along with their brothers.
16 And Job lived after these things, a hundred and forty years, and he saw his children, and his children's children, unto the fourth generation, And after this Job lived 140 years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, four generations. After this, Job lived a hundred and forty years; he saw his children and their children to the fourth generation.
17 and he died an old man, and full of days. And Job died, an old man, and full of days. And so Job died, an old man and full of years.
