1 At that time, Merodach-Baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah, for he had heard that he had been sick and had regained strength. At that time Merodach-baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent envoys with letters and a present to Hezekiah, for he heard that he had been sick and had recovered. At that time Marduk-Baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon sent Hezekiah letters and a gift, because he had heard of his illness and recovery.
2 And Hezekiah was glad over them, and he showed them the house of his treasure, the silver and the gold, and the spices, and the precious oil, and all the house of his armory, and all that was found in his storehouses. There was not a thing in his house or in all his dominion that Hezekiah did not show them. And Hezekiah welcomed them gladly. And he showed them his treasure house, the silver, the gold, the spices, the precious oil, his whole armory, all that was found in his storehouses. There was nothing in his house or in all his realm that Hezekiah did not show them. Hezekiah received the envoys gladly and showed them what was in his storehouses—the silver, the gold, the spices, the fine olive oil—his entire armory and everything found among his treasures. There was nothing in his palace or in all his kingdom that Hezekiah did not show them.
3 And Isaiah the prophet came to king Hezekiah and said to him,” “What did these men say, and from where did they come to you? And Hezekiah said, “From a land” far off—they have come to me from Babylon.” Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah, and said to him, “What did these men say? And from where did they come to you?” Hezekiah said, “They have come to me from a far country, from Babylon.” Then Isaiah the prophet went to King Hezekiah and asked, “What did those men say, and where did they come from?” “From a distant land,” Hezekiah replied. “They came to me from Babylon.”
4 And he said “What have they seen in your house?” And Hezekiah said, “All that is in my house they have seen; there is not a thing that I have not shown them among my treasures.” He said, “What have they seen in your house?” Hezekiah answered, “They have seen all that is in my house. There is nothing in my storehouses that I did not show them.” The prophet asked, “What did they see in your palace?” “They saw everything in my palace,” Hezekiah said. “There is nothing among my treasures that I did not show them.”
5 And Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of YHWH of hosts: Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the LORD of hosts: Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the LORD Almighty:
6 Behold, the days are coming when it will be carried off—all that is in your house and that your fathers have stored up until this day—to Babylon; not a thing will be left, says YHWH. Behold, the days are coming, when all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have stored up till this day, shall be carried to Babylon. Nothing shall be left, says the LORD. The time will surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your predecessors have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD.
7 And from the sons who will come forth from you, whom you will beget, they will take away; and they will be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.” And some of your own sons, who will come from you, whom you will father, shall be taken away, and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.” And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood who will be born to you, will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”
8 And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “Good is” the word of YHWH that you have spoken. And he said, “For there will be peace and security in my days.” Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the LORD that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “There will be peace and security in my days.” “The word of the LORD you have spoken is good,” Hezekiah replied. For he thought, “There will be peace and security in my lifetime.”
