18	וַיַּסֵּ֨ב אֱלֹהִ֧ים ׀ אֶת־ הָעָ֛ם דֶּ֥רֶךְ הַמִּדְבָּ֖ר יַם־ ס֑וּף וַחֲמֻשִׁ֛ים עָל֥וּ בְנֵי־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃	But God led the people around by the way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea. And the people of Israel went up out of the land of Egypt equipped for battle.	So God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea. The Israelites went up out of Egypt ready for battle.
19	וַיִּקַּ֥ח מֹשֶׁ֛ה אֶת־ עַצְמ֥וֹת יוֹסֵ֖ף עִמּ֑וֹ כִּי֩ הַשְׁבֵּ֨עַ הִשְׁבִּ֜יעַ אֶת־ בְּנֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר פָּקֹ֨ד יִפְקֹ֤ד אֱלֹהִים֙ אֶתְכֶ֔ם וְהַעֲלִיתֶ֧ם אֶת־ עַצְמֹתַ֛י מִזֶּ֖ה אִתְּכֶֽם׃	Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for Joseph had made the sons of Israel solemnly swear, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones with you from here.”	Moses took the bones of Joseph with him because Joseph had made the Israelites swear an oath. He had said, “God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up with you from this place.”
20	וַיִּסְע֖וּ מִסֻּכֹּ֑ת וַיַּחֲנ֣וּ בְאֵתָ֔ם בִּקְצֵ֖ה הַמִּדְבָּֽר׃	And they moved on from Succoth and encamped at Etham, on the edge of the wilderness.	After leaving Sukkoth they camped at Etham on the edge of the desert.
21	וַֽיהוָ֡ה הֹלֵךְ֩ לִפְנֵיהֶ֨ם יוֹמָ֜ם בְּעַמּ֤וּד עָנָן֙ לַנְחֹתָ֣ם הַדֶּ֔רֶךְ וְלַ֛יְלָה בְּעַמּ֥וּד אֵ֖שׁ לְהָאִ֣יר לָהֶ֑ם לָלֶ֖כֶת יוֹמָ֥ם וָלָֽיְלָה׃	And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night.	By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.
22	לֹֽא־ יָמִ֞ישׁ עַמּ֤וּד הֶֽעָנָן֙ יוֹמָ֔ם וְעַמּ֥וּד הָאֵ֖שׁ לָ֑יְלָה לִפְנֵ֖י הָעָֽם׃ פ	The pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night did not depart from before the people.	Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.
