27 Now when the seven days were about to be completed, the Jews from Asia, having seen him in the temple, began stirring up all the crowd, and they laid the hands upon him, When the seven days were almost completed, the Jews from Asia, seeing him in the temple, stirred up the whole crowd and laid hands on him, When the seven days were nearly over, some Jews from the province of Asia saw Paul at the temple. They stirred up the whole crowd and seized him,
28 crying out, “Men, Israelites, help! This is the man who is teaching all those everywhere against the people and the law and this place. And besides, he has also brought Greeks into the temple and defiled this holy place.” crying out, “Men of Israel, help! This is the man who is teaching everyone everywhere against the people and the law and this place. Moreover, he even brought Greeks into the temple and has defiled this holy place.” shouting, “Fellow Israelites, help us! This is the man who teaches everyone everywhere against our people and our law and this place. And besides, he has brought Greeks into the temple and defiled this holy place.”
29 For it was they having previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian in the city with him, whom they were supposing that Paul had brought into the temple. For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city, and they supposed that Paul had brought him into the temple. (They had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian in the city with Paul and assumed that Paul had brought him into the temple.)
30 And the whole city was provoked, and there was a rushing together of the people. And having laid hold of Paul, they dragged him outside the temple, and immediately the doors were shut. Then all the city was stirred up, and the people ran together. They seized Paul and dragged him out of the temple, and at once the gates were shut. The whole city was aroused, and the people came running from all directions. Seizing Paul, they dragged him from the temple, and immediately the gates were shut.
31 And in their seeking to kill him, a report came to the commander of the cohort that all Jerusalem was in an uproar, And as they were seeking to kill him, word came to the tribune of the cohort that all Jerusalem was in confusion. While they were trying to kill him, news reached the commander of the Roman troops that the whole city of Jerusalem was in an uproar.
32 who at once, having taken with him soldiers and centurions, ran down upon them. And having seen the commander and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul. He at once took soldiers and centurions and ran down to them. And when they saw the tribune and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul. He at once took some officers and soldiers and ran down to the crowd. When the rioters saw the commander and his soldiers, they stopped beating Paul.
33 Then having drawn near, the commander laid hold of him and commanded him to be bound with two chains, and he began inquiring who he might be and what it is he has been doing. Then the tribune came up and arrested him and ordered him to be bound with two chains. He inquired who he was and what he had done. The commander came up and arrested him and ordered him to be bound with two chains. Then he asked who he was and what he had done.
34 They were crying out in the crowd one thing, but others another. And he, not being able to know the facts on account of the uproar, ordered him to be brought into the barracks. Some in the crowd were shouting one thing, some another. And as he could not learn the facts because of the uproar, he ordered him to be brought into the barracks. Some in the crowd shouted one thing and some another, and since the commander could not get at the truth because of the uproar, he ordered that Paul be taken into the barracks.
35 And when he came to the stairs, it happened that he was carried by the soldiers because of the violence of the crowd. And when he came to the steps, he was actually carried by the soldiers because of the violence of the crowd, When Paul reached the steps, the violence of the mob was so great he had to be carried by the soldiers.
36 For the multitude of the people were following, crying out, “Away with him!” for the mob of the people followed, crying out, “Away with him!” The crowd that followed kept shouting, “Get rid of him!”
