1 For we know that, if the earthly house of our tabernacle be dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens. For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.
2 For verily, in this we groan, longing to be clothed upon with our habitation which is from Heaven; For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling,
3 if, indeed, being also clothed, we will not be found naked. if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked.
4 For, indeed, we who are in the tabernacle groan, being weighed down; not that we wish to be unclothed, but be clothed upon, that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.
5 Now He Who wrought us for this very thing is God, Who gave to us the earnest of the Spirit. He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
6 Being, therefore, always of good courage, and knowing that, while dwelling in the body, we are absent from the Lord So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord.
7 (for we walk by faith and not by sight); for we walk by faith, not by sight. For we live by faith, not by sight.
8 we are of good courage, I say , and are well pleased to be absent from the body, and to be at home with the Lord. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
9 Wherefore, we also make it our aim—whether being at home or being from home—to be well-pleasing to Him. So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.
10 For we must all be manifested before the judgment-seat of Christ; that each one may receive the things done through the body, according to the things which he practiced, whether good or evil. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.
11 Knowing, therefore, the fear of the Lord, we persuade men; but to God we have been made manifest, and I hope that we have been made manifest also in your consciences. Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others. But what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience. Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade others. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience.
12 We are not again commending ourselves to you, but giving you occasion of glorying on our behalf, that ye may have something suited to those who glory in appearance, and not in heart. We are not commending ourselves to you again but giving you cause to boast about us, so that you may be able to answer those who boast about outward appearance and not about what is in the heart. We are not trying to commend ourselves to you again, but are giving you an opportunity to take pride in us, so that you can answer those who take pride in what is seen rather than in what is in the heart.
13 For whether we were beside ourselves, it was to God; or whether we are of sober mind, it is for you. For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. If we are “out of our mind,” as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you.
14 For the love of Christ is constraining us; having judged this, that One died for all; consequently, they all died: For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.
15 and He died for all, that those who live should no longer live to themselves, but to Him Who died for them, and rose again. and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
16 Wherefore, we henceforth know no one according to the flesh; even if we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now no longer do we know Him thus . From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.
17 Wherefore, if any one is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, they have become new. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
18 But all things are of God, Who reconciled us to Himself through Christ, and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation; All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:
19 how that God was in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself, not reckoning to them their trespasses, and having put in us the word of reconciliation. that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
20 On behalf of Christ, therefore, we are ambassadors, as though God were beseeching through us, we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be ye reconciled to God Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.
21 Him Who knew no sin He made to be sin on our behalf, that we may become God's righteousness in Him. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
