1 For we know that if our earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal dwelling in the heavens, not made with hands. For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.
2 Indeed, we groan in this tent, desiring to put on our heavenly dwelling, For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling,
3 since, when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked.
4 Indeed, we groan while we are in this tent, burdened as we are, because we do not want to be unclothed but clothed, so that mortality may be swallowed up by life. For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.
5 Now the one who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave us the Spirit as a down payment. He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
6 So we are always confident and know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord.
7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. for we walk by faith, not by sight. For we live by faith, not by sight.
8 In fact, we are confident, and we would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
9 Therefore, whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to be pleasing to him. So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may be repaid for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil. 12 We are not commending ourselves to you again, but giving you an opportunity to be proud of us, so that you may have a reply for those who take pride in outward appearance rather than in the heart. We are not commending ourselves to you again but giving you cause to boast about us, so that you may be able to answer those who boast about outward appearance and not about what is in the heart. We are not trying to commend ourselves to you again, but are giving you an opportunity to take pride in us, so that you can answer those who take pride in what is seen rather than in what is in the heart.
13 For if we are out of our mind, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. If we are “out of our mind,” as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you.
14 For the love of Christ compels us, since we have reached this conclusion, that one died for all, and therefore all died. For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.
15 And he died for all so that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for the one who died for them and was raised. and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
16 From now on, then, we do not know anyone from a worldly perspective. Even if we have known Christ from a worldly perspective, yet now we no longer know him in this way. From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come! Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
18 Everything is from God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation. 21 He made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
