And I decided this to myself, not to come again to you in sorrow, For I made up my mind not to make another painful visit to you. So I made up my mind that I would not make another painful visit to you.
for if I make you sorry, then who is he who is making me glad, except he who is made sorry by me? For if I cause you pain, who is there to make me glad but the one whom I have pained? For if I grieve you, who is left to make me glad but you whom I have grieved?
And I wrote to you this same thing, that having come, I may not have sorrow from them of whom it was necessary [for] me to have joy, having confidence in you all, that my joy is of you all, And I wrote as I did, so that when I came I might not suffer pain from those who should have made me rejoice, for I felt sure of all of you, that my joy would be the joy of you all. I wrote as I did, so that when I came I would not be distressed by those who should have made me rejoice. I had confidence in all of you, that you would all share my joy.
for out of much tribulation and pressure of heart I wrote to you through many tears, not that you might be made sorry, but that you might know the love that I have more abundantly toward you. For I wrote to you out of much affliction and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to cause you pain but to let you know the abundant love that I have for you. For I wrote you out of great distress and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to grieve you but to let you know the depth of my love for you.
And if anyone has caused sorrow, he has not caused sorrow to me, but in part, that I may not burden you all; Now if anyone has caused pain, he has caused it not to me, but in some measure—not to put it too severely—to all of you. If anyone has caused grief, he has not so much grieved me as he has grieved all of you to some extent—not to put it too severely.
sufficient to such a one is this punishment, that [is] by the greater part, For such a one, this punishment by the majority is enough, The punishment inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient.
so that, on the contrary, [it is] rather for you to forgive and to comfort, lest by over abundant sorrow such a one may be swallowed up; so you should rather turn to forgive and comfort him, or he may be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.
for this reason, I call on you to confirm love to him, So I beg you to reaffirm your love for him. I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him.
for this also I wrote, that I might know your proof, whether you are obedient in regard to all things. For this is why I wrote, that I might test you and know whether you are obedient in everything. Another reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything.
And to whom you forgive anything—I also; for I also, if I have forgiven anything, to whom I have forgiven [it], because of you—in the person of Christ—[I forgive it,] Anyone whom you forgive, I also forgive. Indeed, what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, has been for your sake in the presence of Christ, Anyone you forgive, I also forgive. And what I have forgiven—if there was anything to forgive—I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake,
that we may not be over-reached by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his schemes. so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs. in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.
And having come to Troas for the good news of the Christ, and a door having been opened to me in the LORD, When I came to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ, even though a door was opened for me in the Lord, Now when I went to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ and found that the Lord had opened a door for me,
I have not had rest to my spirit, on my not finding my brother Titus, but having taken leave of them, I went forth to Macedonia; my spirit was not at rest because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I took leave of them and went on to Macedonia. I still had no peace of mind, because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I said goodbye to them and went on to Macedonia.
and to God [is] thanks, who at all times is leading us in triumph in the Christ, and the fragrance of His knowledge He is revealing through us in every place; But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.
we are a refreshing fragrance to God because of Christ, in those being saved, and in those being lost; For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.
to one, indeed, a fragrance of death to death, and to the other, a fragrance of life to life; and who is sufficient for these things? to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things? To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such a task?
For we are not as the many, adulterating the word of God, but as of sincerity—but as of God; in the presence of God, in Christ we speak. For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God’s word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ. Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God.
