1 SO all Israel and Judah were considered wicked, for they were carried captive to Babylon because of their wickedness. So all Israel was recorded in genealogies, and these are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel. And Judah was taken into exile in Babylon because of their breach of faith. All Israel was listed in the genealogies recorded in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. They were taken captive to Babylon because of their unfaithfulness.
2 Now the first inhabitants who dwelt in their possessions in their cities were the Israelites, the priests, the Levites, and the proselytes. Now the first to dwell again in their possessions in their cities were Israel, the priests, the Levites, and the temple servants. Now the first to resettle on their own property in their own towns were some Israelites, priests, Levites and temple servants.
3 And in Jerusalem dwelt some of the children of Judah and of the children of Benjamin and of the children of Ephraim and of Manasseh: And some of the people of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh lived in Jerusalem: Those from Judah, from Benjamin, and from Ephraim and Manasseh who lived in Jerusalem were:
4 Zori the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Benjamin, of the descendants of Pharez the son of Judah. Uthai the son of Ammihud, son of Omri, son of Imri, son of Bani, from the sons of Perez the son of Judah. Uthai son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, a descendant of Perez son of Judah.
5 And of the land of the Shilonites: Asaiah the first-born, and Bezaiah his brother. And of the Shilonites: Asaiah the firstborn, and his sons. Of the Shelanites: Asaiah the firstborn and his sons.
6 And of the descendants of Zerah: Jeuel, and their brethren, six hundred and ninety. Of the sons of Zerah: Jeuel and their kinsmen, 690. Of the Zerahites: Jeuel. The people from Judah numbered 690.
7 And of the descendants of Benjamin: Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodiah, the son of Jahbanah, Of the Benjaminites: Sallu the son of Meshullam, son of Hodaviah, son of Hassenuah, Of the Benjamites: Sallu son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah;
8 And Jocaniah the son of Jeroham. These were the descendants of Uzzi the son of Machir and Meshullam the son of Reuel, the son of Jocaniah; Ibneiah the son of Jeroham, Elah the son of Uzzi, son of Michri, and Meshullam the son of Shephatiah, son of Reuel, son of Ibnijah; Ibneiah son of Jeroham; Elah son of Uzzi, the son of Mikri; and Meshullam son of Shephatiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah.
9 And their brethren, according to their generations, nine hundred and ninety-nine. All these were valiant men, captains over hundreds according to their fathers' houses. and their kinsmen according to their generations, 956. All these were heads of fathers’ houses according to their fathers’ houses. The people from Benjamin, as listed in their genealogy, numbered 956. All these men were heads of their families.
10 And of the priests: Jonadab, Jodaiah, and Zachim, Of the priests: Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, Jachin, Of the priests: Jedaiah; Jehoiarib; Jakin;
11 And Azariah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Maro, the son of Ahitub, whose house was situated opposite the house of the LORD. and Azariah the son of Hilkiah, son of Meshullam, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, the chief officer of the house of God; Azariah son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the official in charge of the house of God;
12 And Azariah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pashur, the son of Malchijah, and Mansai the son of Adiel, the son of Johanan, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshraoth, the son of Immer; and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah, and Maasai the son of Adiel, son of Jahzerah, son of Meshullam, son of Meshillemith, son of Immer; Adaiah son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malkijah; and Maasai son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer.
13 And their brethren, heads of the house of their fathers, one thousand seven hundred and sixty; very able men for the work of the service of the house of the LORD. besides their kinsmen, heads of their fathers’ houses, 1,760, mighty men for the work of the service of the house of God. The priests, who were heads of families, numbered 1,760. They were able men, responsible for ministering in the house of God.
14 And of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hashum, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, Of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari; Of the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, a Merarite;
15 Of the descendants of Merari: Jarhum the son of Hadush, the son of Alal, and Mattaniah the son of Micah, the son of Zabdai, the son of Asaph; and Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal and Mattaniah the son of Mica, son of Zichri, son of Asaph; Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal and Mattaniah son of Mika, the son of Zikri, the son of Asaph;
16 And Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, the son of Cala, the son of Jerithun; and Berechiah the son of Asaph, the son of Hilkanah, who dwelt in Ramtha. and Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, son of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites. Obadiah son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun; and Berekiah son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites.
17 And the porters were Shallum, Jacob, Talan, Hamnon, Ahihom, and Shallum, The gatekeepers were Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their kinsmen (Shallum was the chief); The gatekeepers: Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman and their fellow Levites, Shallum their chief
18 Who hitherto waited in the king's gate eastward; they were the porters in the companies of the descendants of Levi. until then they were in the king’s gate on the east side as the gatekeepers of the camps of the Levites. being stationed at the King’s Gate on the east, up to the present time. These were the gatekeepers belonging to the camp of the Levites.
19 And Shallum the son of Kora, the son of Akhsiph, the son of Korah, and his brethren and the members of his father's house were over the work and over the keepers of the gates of the tabernacle; and their fathers, who were over the host, were the keepers of the exit and of the entrance. Shallum the son of Kore, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his kinsmen of his fathers’ house, the Korahites, were in charge of the work of the service, keepers of the thresholds of the tent, as their fathers had been in charge of the camp of the LORD, keepers of the entrance. Shallum son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his fellow gatekeepers from his family (the Korahites) were responsible for guarding the thresholds of the tent just as their ancestors had been responsible for guarding the entrance to the dwelling of the LORD.
20 And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was ruler over them in time past, and the LORD was with him. And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was the chief officer over them in time past; the LORD was with him. In earlier times Phinehas son of Eleazar was the official in charge of the gatekeepers, and the LORD was with him.
21 And Zechariah the son of Meshallum was porter of the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was gatekeeper at the entrance of the tent of meeting. Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was the gatekeeper at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
22 All those who were chosen to be porters in the gates were two hundred and twelve. These were reckoned by their genealogy, whom David and Samuel the prophet appointed to their set office. All these, who were chosen as gatekeepers at the thresholds, were 212. They were enrolled by genealogies in their villages. David and Samuel the seer established them in their office of trust. Altogether, those chosen to be gatekeepers at the thresholds numbered 212. They were registered by genealogy in their villages. The gatekeepers had been assigned to their positions of trust by David and Samuel the seer.
23 For they appointed them and their sons to keep the gates of the house of the LORD and the house of the tabernacle of the congregation, as guards. So they and their sons were in charge of the gates of the house of the LORD, that is, the house of the tent, as guards. They and their descendants were in charge of guarding the gates of the house of the LORD—the house called the tent of meeting.
24 The gates were open toward the four directions, toward the east, west, north, and south. The gatekeepers were on the four sides, east, west, north, and south. The gatekeepers were on the four sides: east, west, north and south.
25 And their brethren who kept the watch in their generation did not enter into the temple except once every seven days from time to time, And their kinsmen who were in their villages were obligated to come in every seven days, in turn, to be with these, Their fellow Levites in their villages had to come from time to time and share their duties for seven-day periods.
26 For these Levites were in their set office, and were in charge of the four gates in the four directions; and stood on guard, and were over the work and over the treasuries of the house of the LORD. for the four chief gatekeepers, who were Levites, were entrusted to be over the chambers and the treasures of the house of God. But the four principal gatekeepers, who were Levites, were entrusted with the responsibility for the rooms and treasuries in the house of God.
27 And they lodged round about the house of the LORD, because upon them was the duty of guarding the gates. And they lodged around the house of God, for on them lay the duty of watching, and they had charge of opening it every morning. They would spend the night stationed around the house of God, because they had to guard it; and they had charge of the key for opening it each morning.
28 And certain of them had charge of inspecting all the vessels of service, which were counted every morning when they were brought in and when they were taken out. Some of them had charge of the utensils of service, for they were required to count them when they were brought in and taken out. Some of them were in charge of the articles used in the temple service; they counted them when they were brought in and when they were taken out.
29 And some of the Levites were appointed over the vessels and over all the instruments of the sanctuary, over the altar and the vessels, the wine, the oil, the frankincense, and the pure spices. Others of them were appointed over the furniture and over all the holy utensils, also over the fine flour, the wine, the oil, the incense, and the spices. Others were assigned to take care of the furnishings and all the other articles of the sanctuary, as well as the special flour and wine, and the olive oil, incense and spices.
30 And some of the sons of the priests prepared the incense for the censers, and the gifts were given by the Levites. Others, of the sons of the priests, prepared the mixing of the spices, But some of the priests took care of mixing the spices.
31 And Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the first-born of Shallum, was intrusted with the office of the mysterious rites. and Mattithiah, one of the Levites, the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, was entrusted with making the flat cakes. A Levite named Mattithiah, the firstborn son of Shallum the Korahite, was entrusted with the responsibility for baking the offering bread.
32 And also some of the descendants of Kohath were over their brethren and over the shewbread, to prepare the meal every sabbath. Also some of their kinsmen of the Kohathites had charge of the showbread, to prepare it every Sabbath. Some of the Kohathites, their fellow Levites, were in charge of preparing for every Sabbath the bread set out on the table.
33 And these are the ministers, chiefs of the fathers of the Levites, who kept the watch in the chambers round about the temple, because they were over the work day and night. Now these, the singers, the heads of fathers’ houses of the Levites, were in the chambers of the temple free from other service, for they were on duty day and night. Those who were musicians, heads of Levite families, stayed in the rooms of the temple and were exempt from other duties because they were responsible for the work day and night.
34 These were chiefs of the fathers of the Levites, according to their generations; and these dwelt in Jerusalem. These were heads of fathers’ houses of the Levites, according to their generations, leaders. These lived in Jerusalem. All these were heads of Levite families, chiefs as listed in their genealogy, and they lived in Jerusalem.
35 And in Gibeon dwelt the father of Gibeon, and the name of his first-born son was Joel, and the name of his wife was Maachah; In Gibeon lived the father of Gibeon, Jeiel, and the name of his wife was Maacah, Jeiel the father of Gibeon lived in Gibeon. His wife’s name was Maakah,
36 And his second son was Abron; then Zur, Kishon, Baal, Ner, and Nadab, and his firstborn son Abdon, then Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab, and his firstborn son was Abdon, followed by Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab,
37 And Gedor, Ahiah, Zechariah, and Mikloth. Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah, and Mikloth; Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah and Mikloth.
38 And Mikloth begat Shimaez. And they also dwelt with their brethren in Jerusalem, opposite their brethren. and Mikloth was the father of Shimeam; and these also lived opposite their kinsmen in Jerusalem, with their kinsmen. Mikloth was the father of Shimeam. They too lived near their relatives in Jerusalem.
39 And Ner begat Kish; and Kish begat Saul; and Saul begat Jonathan and Malchishua and Jeshui and Ashbashul. Ner fathered Kish, Kish fathered Saul, Saul fathered Jonathan, Malchi-shua, Abinadab, and Eshbaal. Ner was the father of Kish, Kish the father of Saul, and Saul the father of Jonathan, Malki-Shua, Abinadab and Esh-Baal.
40 And Jeshui had a son, whose name was Merib-baal: and Merib-baal begat Micah. And the son of Jonathan was Merib-baal, and Merib-baal fathered Micah. The son of Jonathan: Merib-Baal, who was the father of Micah.
41 And the sons of Micah were Pithon, Melech, and Ahaz. The sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, and Ahaz. The sons of Micah: Pithon, Melek, Tahrea and Ahaz.
42 And Ahaz begat Jezaniah; and Jezaniah begat Alemoth; and Alemoth begat Zimri; and Zimri begat Moza; And Ahaz fathered Jarah, and Jarah fathered Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri. And Zimri fathered Moza. Ahaz was the father of Jadah, Jadah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth and Zimri, and Zimri was the father of Moza.
43 And Moza begat Canaaniah; and Rephaiah his son, Azel his son, and Eleasah his son. Moza fathered Binea, and Rephaiah was his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son. Moza was the father of Binea; Rephaiah was his son, Eleasah his son and Azel his son.
44 And Azel had six sons, whose names are these: Uzzi his first-born, Kim his second, Ashmah, Shadiah, Obadiah, and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel. Azel had six sons and these are their names: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan; these were the sons of Azel. Azel had six sons, and these were their names: Azrikam, Bokeru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.
