1 And so, all of Israel was numbered. And the sum of them was written in the book of the kings of Israel and of Judah. And they were taken away to Babylon because of their transgression. So all Israel was recorded in genealogies, and these are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel. And Judah was taken into exile in Babylon because of their breach of faith. All Israel was listed in the genealogies recorded in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. They were taken captive to Babylon because of their unfaithfulness.
2 Now the first who lived in their possessions and in their cities were Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, and the temple servants. Now the first to dwell again in their possessions in their cities were Israel, the priests, the Levites, and the temple servants. Now the first to resettle on their own property in their own towns were some Israelites, priests, Levites and temple servants.
3 Staying in Jerusalem were some from the sons of Judah, and from the sons of Benjamin, and also from the sons of Ephraim and of Manasseh: And some of the people of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh lived in Jerusalem: Those from Judah, from Benjamin, and from Ephraim and Manasseh who lived in Jerusalem were:
4 Uthai, the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, from the sons of Perez, the son of Judah. Uthai the son of Ammihud, son of Omri, son of Imri, son of Bani, from the sons of Perez the son of Judah. Uthai son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, a descendant of Perez son of Judah.
5 And from Shiloni: Asaiah the firstborn, and his sons. And of the Shilonites: Asaiah the firstborn, and his sons. Of the Shelanites: Asaiah the firstborn and his sons.
6 Then from the sons of Zerah: Jeuel, and their brothers, six hundred ninety. Of the sons of Zerah: Jeuel and their kinsmen, 690. Of the Zerahites: Jeuel. The people from Judah numbered 690.
7 And from the sons of Benjamin: Sallu, the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah; Of the Benjaminites: Sallu the son of Meshullam, son of Hodaviah, son of Hassenuah, Of the Benjamites: Sallu son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah;
8 and Ibneiah, the son of Jeroham; and Elah, the son of Uzzi, the son of Michri; and Meshullam, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah; Ibneiah the son of Jeroham, Elah the son of Uzzi, son of Michri, and Meshullam the son of Shephatiah, son of Reuel, son of Ibnijah; Ibneiah son of Jeroham; Elah son of Uzzi, the son of Mikri; and Meshullam son of Shephatiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah.
9 and their brothers according to their families, nine hundred fifty-six. All these were leaders of their kindred, according to the houses of their fathers. and their kinsmen according to their generations, 956. All these were heads of fathers’ houses according to their fathers’ houses. The people from Benjamin, as listed in their genealogy, numbered 956. All these men were heads of their families.
10 And from the priests: Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, and Jachin; Of the priests: Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, Jachin, Of the priests: Jedaiah; Jehoiarib; Jakin;
11 and also Azariah, the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the high priest of the house of God; and Azariah the son of Hilkiah, son of Meshullam, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, the chief officer of the house of God; Azariah son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the official in charge of the house of God;
12 then Adaiah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah; and Maasai, the son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer; and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah, and Maasai the son of Adiel, son of Jahzerah, son of Meshullam, son of Meshillemith, son of Immer; Adaiah son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malkijah; and Maasai son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer.
13 and also their brothers, leaders according to their families, one thousand seven hundred sixty, very strong experience men, for the work of the ministry in the house of God. besides their kinsmen, heads of their fathers’ houses, 1,760, mighty men for the work of the service of the house of God. The priests, who were heads of families, numbered 1,760. They were able men, responsible for ministering in the house of God.
14 Then from the Levites: Shemaiah, the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari; Of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari; Of the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, a Merarite;
15 and also Bakbakkar the carpenter; and Galal; and Mattaniah, the son of Mica, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph; and Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal and Mattaniah the son of Mica, son of Zichri, son of Asaph; Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal and Mattaniah son of Mika, the son of Zikri, the son of Asaph;
16 and Obadiah, the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun; and Berechiah, the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, who lived at the entrance to Netophah. and Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, son of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites. Obadiah son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun; and Berekiah son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites.
17 Now the gatekeepers were Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman; and their brother Shallum was the leader. The gatekeepers were Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their kinsmen (Shallum was the chief); The gatekeepers: Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman and their fellow Levites, Shallum their chief
18 For until that time, at the gate of the king to the east, the sons of Levi served in their turns. until then they were in the king’s gate on the east side as the gatekeepers of the camps of the Levites. being stationed at the King’s Gate on the east, up to the present time. These were the gatekeepers belonging to the camp of the Levites.
19 Truly, Shallum, the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, with his brothers and his father’s house, these Korahites, were over the works of the ministry of keeping the vestibules of the tabernacle. And their families, in turns, were keepers of the entrance to the camp of the Lord. Shallum the son of Kore, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his kinsmen of his fathers’ house, the Korahites, were in charge of the work of the service, keepers of the thresholds of the tent, as their fathers had been in charge of the camp of the LORD, keepers of the entrance. Shallum son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his fellow gatekeepers from his family (the Korahites) were responsible for guarding the thresholds of the tent just as their ancestors had been responsible for guarding the entrance to the dwelling of the LORD.
20 Now Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, was their ruler before the Lord. And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was the chief officer over them in time past; the LORD was with him. In earlier times Phinehas son of Eleazar was the official in charge of the gatekeepers, and the LORD was with him.
21 But Zechariah, the son of Meshelemiah, was the keeper of the gate of the tabernacle of the testimony. Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was gatekeeper at the entrance of the tent of meeting. Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was the gatekeeper at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
22 All these, chosen as porters for the gates, were two hundred twelve. And they were recorded in their own towns, those whom David, and the seer Samuel, appointed, in their faith, All these, who were chosen as gatekeepers at the thresholds, were 212. They were enrolled by genealogies in their villages. David and Samuel the seer established them in their office of trust. Altogether, those chosen to be gatekeepers at the thresholds numbered 212. They were registered by genealogy in their villages. The gatekeepers had been assigned to their positions of trust by David and Samuel the seer.
23 as with them, so also with their sons, at the gates of the house of the Lord and the tabernacle, by their turns. So they and their sons were in charge of the gates of the house of the LORD, that is, the house of the tent, as guards. They and their descendants were in charge of guarding the gates of the house of the LORD—the house called the tent of meeting.
24 At the four directions, there were gatekeepers, that is, at the east, and at the west, and at the north, and at the south. The gatekeepers were on the four sides, east, west, north, and south. The gatekeepers were on the four sides: east, west, north and south.
25 Now their brothers were staying in the villages, and they arrived on their Sabbaths, from time to time. And their kinsmen who were in their villages were obligated to come in every seven days, in turn, to be with these, Their fellow Levites in their villages had to come from time to time and share their duties for seven-day periods.
26 To these four Levites were entrusted the entire number of the gatekeepers, and they were over the chambers and storehouses of the house of the Lord. for the four chief gatekeepers, who were Levites, were entrusted to be over the chambers and the treasures of the house of God. But the four principal gatekeepers, who were Levites, were entrusted with the responsibility for the rooms and treasuries in the house of God.
27 And they remained in their watches, on all sides of the temple of the Lord, so that, when the time had arrived, they might open the gates in the morning. And they lodged around the house of God, for on them lay the duty of watching, and they had charge of opening it every morning. They would spend the night stationed around the house of God, because they had to guard it; and they had charge of the key for opening it each morning.
28 Some from their kindred were also over the vessels of the ministry. For the vessels were both carried in and carried out according to number. Some of them had charge of the utensils of service, for they were required to count them when they were brought in and taken out. Some of them were in charge of the articles used in the temple service; they counted them when they were brought in and when they were taken out.
29 Some of them also were entrusted with the equipment of the sanctuary; they were in charge of the fine wheat flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the aromatics. Others of them were appointed over the furniture and over all the holy utensils, also over the fine flour, the wine, the oil, the incense, and the spices. Others were assigned to take care of the furnishings and all the other articles of the sanctuary, as well as the special flour and wine, and the olive oil, incense and spices.
30 Now the sons of the priests composed the ointments from the aromatics. Others, of the sons of the priests, prepared the mixing of the spices, But some of the priests took care of mixing the spices.
31 And Mattithiah, a Levite, the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, was in charge of those things that were cooked in a frying pan. and Mattithiah, one of the Levites, the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, was entrusted with making the flat cakes. A Levite named Mattithiah, the firstborn son of Shallum the Korahite, was entrusted with the responsibility for baking the offering bread.
32 Now some of the sons of Kohath, their brothers, were over the bread of the presence, so that they might continually prepare it new for each Sabbath. Also some of their kinsmen of the Kohathites had charge of the showbread, to prepare it every Sabbath. Some of the Kohathites, their fellow Levites, were in charge of preparing for every Sabbath the bread set out on the table.
33 These are the leaders of the singing men, according to the families of the Levites, who were dwelling in the chambers, so that they might carry out their ministry continually, day and night. Now these, the singers, the heads of fathers’ houses of the Levites, were in the chambers of the temple free from other service, for they were on duty day and night. Those who were musicians, heads of Levite families, stayed in the rooms of the temple and were exempt from other duties because they were responsible for the work day and night.
34 The heads of the Levites, leaders according to their families, abode in Jerusalem. These were heads of fathers’ houses of the Levites, according to their generations, leaders. These lived in Jerusalem. All these were heads of Levite families, chiefs as listed in their genealogy, and they lived in Jerusalem.
35 Now in Gibeon, there lived Jeiel, the father of Gibeon, and the name of his wife was Maacah. In Gibeon lived the father of Gibeon, Jeiel, and the name of his wife was Maacah, Jeiel the father of Gibeon lived in Gibeon. His wife’s name was Maakah,
36 His firstborn son was Abdon, and then Zur, and Kish, and Baal, and Ner, and Nadab, and his firstborn son Abdon, then Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab, and his firstborn son was Abdon, followed by Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab,
37 as well as Gedor, and Ahio, and Zechariah, and Mikloth. Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah, and Mikloth; Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah and Mikloth.
38 Then Mikloth conceived Shimeam. These lived opposite their brothers in Jerusalem, with their brothers. and Mikloth was the father of Shimeam; and these also lived opposite their kinsmen in Jerusalem, with their kinsmen. Mikloth was the father of Shimeam. They too lived near their relatives in Jerusalem.
39 Now Ner conceived Kish, and Kish conceived Saul. And Saul conceived Jonathan, and Malchishua, and Abinadab, and Eshbaal. Ner fathered Kish, Kish fathered Saul, Saul fathered Jonathan, Malchi-shua, Abinadab, and Eshbaal. Ner was the father of Kish, Kish the father of Saul, and Saul the father of Jonathan, Malki-Shua, Abinadab and Esh-Baal.
40 And the son of Jonathan was Meribbaal. And Meribbaal conceived Micah. And the son of Jonathan was Merib-baal, and Merib-baal fathered Micah. The son of Jonathan: Merib-Baal, who was the father of Micah.
41 Now the sons of Micah were Pithon, and Melech, and Tahrea, and Ahaz. The sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, and Ahaz. The sons of Micah: Pithon, Melek, Tahrea and Ahaz.
42 And Ahaz conceived Jarah. And Jarah conceived Alemeth, and Azmaveth, and Zimri. Then Zimri conceived Moza. And Ahaz fathered Jarah, and Jarah fathered Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri. And Zimri fathered Moza. Ahaz was the father of Jadah, Jadah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth and Zimri, and Zimri was the father of Moza.
43 Truly, Moza conceived Binea, whose son, Rephaiah, conceived Eleasah, from of whom was born Azel. Moza fathered Binea, and Rephaiah was his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son. Moza was the father of Binea; Rephaiah was his son, Eleasah his son and Azel his son.
44 Now Azel had six sons, whose names are: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, Hanan. These are the sons of Azel. Azel had six sons and these are their names: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan; these were the sons of Azel. Azel had six sons, and these were their names: Azrikam, Bokeru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.
