1 As for sons of Reuben, firstborn of Israel—for he [is] the firstborn, and on account of his profaning the bed of his father his birthright has been given to the sons of Joseph son of Israel, and [he is] not to be reckoned by genealogy for the birthright, The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel (for he was the firstborn, but because he defiled his father’s couch, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph the son of Israel, so that he could not be enrolled as the oldest son; The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel (he was the firstborn, but when he defiled his father’s marriage bed, his rights as firstborn were given to the sons of Joseph son of Israel; so he could not be listed in the genealogical record in accordance with his birthright,
2 for Judah has been mighty over his brother, and for leader above him, and the birthright [is] to Joseph— though Judah became strong among his brothers and a chief came from him, yet the birthright belonged to Joseph), and though Judah was the strongest of his brothers and a ruler came from him, the rights of the firstborn belonged to Joseph)—
3 sons of Reuben, firstborn of Israel: Enoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. the sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel: Hanok, Pallu, Hezron and Karmi.
4 Sons of Joel: Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son, The sons of Joel: Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son, The descendants of Joel: Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son,

6 Beerah his son, whom Tilgath-Pilneser king of Asshur removed; he [is] prince of the Reubenite. Beerah his son, whom Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria carried away into exile; he was a chief of the Reubenites. and Beerah his son, whom Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria took into exile. Beerah was a leader of the Reubenites.
7 And his brothers, by their families, in the genealogy of their generations, [are] heads: Jeiel, and Zechariah, And his kinsmen by their clans, when the genealogy of their generations was recorded: the chief, Jeiel, and Zechariah, Their relatives by clans, listed according to their genealogical records: Jeiel the chief, Zechariah,
8 and Bela son of Azaz, son of Shema, son of Joel—he is dwelling in Aroer, even to Nebo and Ba‘al-Meon; and Bela the son of Azaz, son of Shema, son of Joel, who lived in Aroer, as far as Nebo and Baal-meon. and Bela son of Azaz, the son of Shema, the son of Joel. They settled in the area from Aroer to Nebo and Baal Meon.
9 and he dwelt at the east even to the entering in of the wilderness, even from the Euphrates River, for their livestock were multiplied in the land of Gilead. He also lived to the east as far as the entrance of the desert this side of the Euphrates, because their livestock had multiplied in the land of Gilead. To the east they occupied the land up to the edge of the desert that extends to the Euphrates River, because their livestock had increased in Gilead.
10 And they have made war with the Hagarites in the days of Saul, who fall by their hand, and they dwell in their tents over all the face of the east of Gilead. And in the days of Saul they waged war against the Hagrites, who fell into their hand. And they lived in their tents throughout all the region east of Gilead. During Saul’s reign they waged war against the Hagrites, who were defeated at their hands; they occupied the dwellings of the Hagrites throughout the entire region east of Gilead.
11 And the sons of Gad have dwelt opposite them in the land of Bashan to Salcah: The sons of Gad lived over against them in the land of Bashan as far as Salecah: The Gadites lived next to them in Bashan, as far as Salekah:
12 Joel the head, and Shapham the second, and Jaanai and Shaphat in Bashan; Joel the chief, Shapham the second, Janai, and Shaphat in Bashan. Joel was the chief, Shapham the second, then Janai and Shaphat, in Bashan.
13 and their brothers of the house of their fathers [are] Michael, and Meshullam, and Sheba, and Jorai, and Jachan, and Zia, and Heber—seven. And their kinsmen according to their fathers’ houses: Michael, Meshullam, Sheba, Jorai, Jacan, Zia and Eber, seven. Their relatives, by families, were: Michael, Meshullam, Sheba, Jorai, Jakan, Zia and Eber—seven in all.
14 These [are] sons of Abihail son of Huri, son of Jaroah, son of Gilead, son of Michael, son of Jeshishai, son of Jahdo, son of Buz; These were the sons of Abihail the son of Huri, son of Jaroah, son of Gilead, son of Michael, son of Jeshishai, son of Jahdo, son of Buz. These were the sons of Abihail son of Huri, the son of Jaroah, the son of Gilead, the son of Michael, the son of Jeshishai, the son of Jahdo, the son of Buz.
15 Ahi son of Abdiel, son of Guni, [is] head of the house of their fathers; Ahi the son of Abdiel, son of Guni, was chief in their fathers’ houses, Ahi son of Abdiel, the son of Guni, was head of their family.
16 and they dwell in Gilead in Bashan, and in her small towns, and in all outskirts of Sharon, on their outskirts; and they lived in Gilead, in Bashan and in its towns, and in all the pasturelands of Sharon to their limits. The Gadites lived in Gilead, in Bashan and its outlying villages, and on all the pasturelands of Sharon as far as they extended.
17 all of them reckoned themselves by genealogy in the days of Jotham king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel. All of these were recorded in genealogies in the days of Jotham king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel. All these were entered in the genealogical records during the reigns of Jotham king of Judah and Jeroboam king of Israel.
18 Sons of Reuben, and the Gadite, and the half of the tribe of Manasseh, of sons of valor, men carrying shield and sword, and treading bow, and taught in battle, [are] forty-four thousand and seven hundred and sixty, going out to the host. The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh had valiant men who carried shield and sword, and drew the bow, expert in war, 44,760, able to go to war. The Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh had 44,760 men ready for military service—able-bodied men who could handle shield and sword, who could use a bow, and who were trained for battle.
19 And they make war with the Hagarites, and Jetur, and Naphish, and Nodab, They waged war against the Hagrites, Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab. They waged war against the Hagrites, Jetur, Naphish and Nodab.
20 and they are helped against them, and the Hagarites are given into their hand, and all who [are] with them, for they cried to God in battle, and He received their plea, because they trusted in Him. And when they prevailed over them, the Hagrites and all who were with them were given into their hands, for they cried out to God in the battle, and he granted their urgent plea because they trusted in him. They were helped in fighting them, and God delivered the Hagrites and all their allies into their hands, because they cried out to him during the battle. He answered their prayers, because they trusted in him.
21 And they take their livestock captive—fifty thousand of their camels, and two hundred and fifty thousand sheep, and two thousand donkeys, and one hundred thousand of mankind; They carried off their livestock: 50,000 of their camels, 250,000 sheep, 2,000 donkeys, and 100,000 men alive. They seized the livestock of the Hagrites—fifty thousand camels, two hundred fifty thousand sheep and two thousand donkeys. They also took one hundred thousand people captive,
22 for many have fallen pierced, for the battle [is] of God; and they dwell in their stead until the expulsion. For many fell, because the war was of God. And they lived in their place until the exile. and many others fell slain, because the battle was God’s. And they occupied the land until the exile.
23 And the sons of the half of the tribe of Manasseh dwelt in the land, from Bashan to Ba‘al-Hermon, and Senir, and Mount Hermon; they have multiplied. The members of the half-tribe of Manasseh lived in the land. They were very numerous from Bashan to Baal-hermon, Senir, and Mount Hermon. The people of the half-tribe of Manasseh were numerous; they settled in the land from Bashan to Baal Hermon, that is, to Senir (Mount Hermon).
24 And these [are] heads of the house of their fathers: even Epher, and Ishi, and Eliel, and Azriel, and Jeremiah, and Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, men mighty in valor, men of renown, heads of the house of their fathers. These were the heads of their fathers’ houses: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty warriors, famous men, heads of their fathers’ houses. These were the heads of their families: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah and Jahdiel. They were brave warriors, famous men, and heads of their families.
25 And they trespass against the God of their fathers, and go whoring after the gods of the peoples of the land whom God destroyed from their presence; But they broke faith with the God of their fathers, and whored after the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them. But they were unfaithful to the God of their ancestors and prostituted themselves to the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them.
26 and the God of Israel stirs up the spirit of Pul king of Asshur, and the spirit of Tilgath-Pilneser king of Asshur, and he removes them—even the Reubenite, and the Gadite, and the half of the tribe of Manasseh—and brings them to Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and the River of Gozan to this day. So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, the spirit of Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, and he took them into exile, namely, the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, and brought them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and the river Gozan, to this day. So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria (that is, Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria), who took the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh into exile. He took them to Halah, Habor, Hara and the river of Gozan, where they are to this day.
