1 And these are the sons of Israel according to their number of the heads of the fathers and the captains of the thousands and of the hundreds, and their officers who served the king in every matter of the divisions who came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year—one division being twenty-four thousand. This is the number of the people of Israel, the heads of fathers’ houses, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and their officers who served the king in all matters concerning the divisions that came and went, month after month throughout the year, each division numbering 24,000: This is the list of the Israelites—heads of families, commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and their officers, who served the king in all that concerned the army divisions that were on duty month by month throughout the year. Each division consisted of 24,000 men.
2 Over the first division for the first month was Jashobeam son of Zabdiel—and in his division twenty-four thousand— Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel was in charge of the first division in the first month; in his division were 24,000. In charge of the first division, for the first month, was Jashobeam son of Zabdiel. There were 24,000 men in his division.
3 of the sons of Perez, the chief of all the captains of the army for the first month. He was a descendant of Perez and was chief of all the commanders. He served for the first month. He was a descendant of Perez and chief of all the army officers for the first month.
4 And over the division of the second month was Dodai the Ahohite, and his division, and Mikloth was the leader, and in his division were twenty-four thousand. Dodai the Ahohite was in charge of the division of the second month; in his division were 24,000. In charge of the division for the second month was Dodai the Ahohite; Mikloth was the leader of his division. There were 24,000 men in his division.
5 The captain of the third army for the third month was Benaiah son of Jehoiada, the chief priest, and in his division were twenty-four thousand. The third commander, for the third month, was Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada the chief priest; in his division were 24,000. The third army commander, for the third month, was Benaiah son of Jehoiada the priest. He was chief and there were 24,000 men in his division.
6 This Benaiah was mighty among the Thirty, and over the thirty, and over his division was Ammizabad his son. This is the Benaiah who was a mighty man of the thirty and in command of the thirty; Ammizabad his son was in charge of his division. This was the Benaiah who was a mighty warrior among the Thirty and was over the Thirty. His son Ammizabad was in charge of his division.
7 The fourth, for the fourth month, was Asahel the brother of Joab, and Zebadiah his son after him, and in his division were twenty-four thousand. Asahel the brother of Joab was fourth, for the fourth month, and his son Zebadiah after him; in his division were 24,000. The fourth, for the fourth month, was Asahel the brother of Joab; his son Zebadiah was his successor. There were 24,000 men in his division.
8 The fifth, for the fifth month, was the captain Shamhuth the Izrahite, and in his division were twenty-four thousand. The fifth commander, for the fifth month, was Shamhuth the Izrahite; in his division were 24,000. The fifth, for the fifth month, was the commander Shamhuth the Izrahite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
9 The sixth, for the sixth month, was Ira son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, and in his division were twenty-four thousand. Sixth, for the sixth month, was Ira, the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite; in his division were 24,000. The sixth, for the sixth month, was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
10 The seventh, for the seventh month, was Helez the Pelonite, of the sons of Ephraim, and in his division were twenty-four thousand. Seventh, for the seventh month, was Helez the Pelonite, of the sons of Ephraim; in his division were 24,000. The seventh, for the seventh month, was Helez the Pelonite, an Ephraimite. 11 The eighth, for the eighth month, was Sibbechai the Hushathite, of the Zerahites, and in his division were twenty-four thousand. 12 The ninth, for the ninth month, was Abiezer the Anathothite, of the Benjamite, and in his division were twenty-four thousand. Ninth, for the ninth month, was Abiezer of Anathoth, a Benjaminite; in his division were 24,000. The ninth, for the ninth month, was Abiezer the Anathothite, a Benjamite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
13 The tenth, for the tenth month, was Maharai the Netophathite, of the Zerahite, and in his division were twenty-four thousand. Tenth, for the tenth month, was Maharai of Netophah, of the Zerahites; in his division were 24,000. The tenth, for the tenth month, was Maharai the Netophathite, a Zerahite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
14 The eleventh, for the eleventh month, was Benaiah the Pirathonite, of the sons of Ephraim, and in his division were twenty-four thousand. Eleventh, for the eleventh month, was Benaiah of Pirathon, of the sons of Ephraim; in his division were 24,000. The eleventh, for the eleventh month, was Benaiah the Pirathonite, an Ephraimite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
15 The twelfth, for the twelfth month, was Heldai the Netophathite, of Othniel, and in his division were twenty-four thousand. Twelfth, for the twelfth month, was Heldai the Netophathite, of Othniel; in his division were 24,000. The twelfth, for the twelfth month, was Heldai the Netophathite, from the family of Othniel. There were 24,000 men in his division.
16 And over the tribes of Israel: Over the Reubenite, the officer was Eliezer son of Zichri; over the Simeonite, Shephatiah son of Maacah; Over the tribes of Israel, for the Reubenites, Eliezer the son of Zichri was chief officer; for the Simeonites, Shephatiah the son of Maacah; The leaders of the tribes of Israel: over the Reubenites: Eliezer son of Zikri; over the Simeonites: Shephatiah son of Maakah;
17 over Levi was Hashabiah son of Kemuel; over Aaron, Zadok; for Levi, Hashabiah the son of Kemuel; for Aaron, Zadok; over Levi: Hashabiah son of Kemuel; over Aaron: Zadok;
18 over Judah was Elihu of the brothers of David; over Issachar, Omri son of Michael; for Judah, Elihu, one of David’s brothers; for Issachar, Omri the son of Michael; over Judah: Elihu, a brother of David; over Issachar: Omri son of Michael;
19 over Zebulun was Ishmaiah son of Obadiah; over Naphtali, Jerimoth son of Azriel; for Zebulun, Ishmaiah the son of Obadiah; for Naphtali, Jeremoth the son of Azriel; over Zebulun: Ishmaiah son of Obadiah; over Naphtali: Jerimoth son of Azriel;

23 David did not take their number from a son of twenty years and under, because YHWH had said He would multiply Israel like the stars of the heavens. David did not take the number of the men twenty years old or less, because the LORD had promised to make Israel as numerous as the stars in the sky.
24 Joab son of Zeruiah began to number, and he did not finish, and there was wrath for this upon Israel. The count did not go up into the number of the Words of the Days of King David. Joab the son of Zeruiah began to count, but did not finish. Yet wrath came upon Israel for this, and the number was not entered in the chronicles of King David. Joab son of Zeruiah began to count the men but did not finish. God’s wrath came on Israel on account of this numbering, and the number was not entered in the book of the annals of King David.
25 And over the treasuries of the king was Azmaveth son of Adiel; and over the storehouses in the field, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the towers, Jonathan son of Uzziah; Over the king’s treasuries was Azmaveth the son of Adiel; and over the treasuries in the country, in the cities, in the villages, and in the towers, was Jonathan the son of Uzziah; Azmaveth son of Adiel was in charge of the royal storehouses. Jonathan son of Uzziah was in charge of the storehouses in the outlying districts, in the towns, the villages and the watchtowers.
26 and over those who did the work of the field for the service of the ground was Ezri son of Chelub; and over those who did the work of the field for tilling the soil was Ezri the son of Chelub; Ezri son of Kelub was in charge of the workers who farmed the land.
27 and over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite; and over the vineyards for the treasuries of wine was Zabdi the Shiphmite; and over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite; and over the produce of the vineyards for the wine cellars was Zabdi the Shiphmite. Shimei the Ramathite was in charge of the vineyards. Zabdi the Shiphmite was in charge of the produce of the vineyards for the wine vats.
28 and over the olive trees and the sycamore trees that are in the Shephelah was Baal-hanan the Gederite; and over the store of the oil was Joash; Over the olive and sycamore trees in the Shephelah was Baal-hanan the Gederite; and over the stores of oil was Joash. Baal-Hanan the Gederite was in charge of the olive and sycamore-fig trees in the western foothills. Joash was in charge of the supplies of olive oil.
29 and over the herd that fed in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite; and over the herd in the valleys was Shaphat son of Adlai; Over the herds that pastured in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite; over the herds in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai. Shitrai the Sharonite was in charge of the herds grazing in Sharon. Shaphat son of Adlai was in charge of the herds in the valleys.
30 and over the camels was Obil the Ishmaelite; and over the donkeys was Jehdeiah the Meronothite; Over the camels was Obil the Ishmaelite; and over the donkeys was Jehdeiah the Meronothite. Over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagrite. Obil the Ishmaelite was in charge of the camels. Jehdeiah the Meronothite was in charge of the donkeys.
31 and over the flock was Jaziz the Hagrite. All these were heads of the property that was unto King David. All these were stewards of King David’s property. Jaziz the Hagrite was in charge of the flocks. All these were the officials in charge of King David’s property.
32 And Jonathan uncle of David—was a counselor, a wise man, and he was a scribe; and Jehiel son of Hachmoni was with the sons of the king; Jonathan, David’s uncle, was a counselor, being a man of understanding and a scribe. He and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni attended the king’s sons. Jonathan, David’s uncle, was a counselor, a man of insight and a scribe. Jehiel son of Hakmoni took care of the king’s sons.
33 and Ahithophel was counselor of the king; and Hushai the Archite was companion of the king. Ahithophel was the king’s counselor, and Hushai the Archite was the king’s friend. Ahithophel was the king’s counselor. Hushai the Arkite was the king’s confidant.
34 And after Ahithophel was Jehoiada son of Benaiah, and Abiathar; and the head of the host of the king was Joab. Ahithophel was succeeded by Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar. Joab was commander of the king’s army. Ahithophel was succeeded by Jehoiada son of Benaiah and by Abiathar. Joab was the commander of the royal army.
