1 Now these were the divisions of the sons of Aaron: The sons of Aaron: Nadab, and Abiu, and Eleazar, and Ithamar. The divisions of the sons of Aaron were these. The sons of Aaron: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. These were the divisions of the descendants of Aaron: The sons of Aaron were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
2 But Nadab and Abiu died before their father, and had no children: so Eleazar, and Ithamar did the office of the priesthood. But Nadab and Abihu died before their father and had no children, so Eleazar and Ithamar became the priests. But Nadab and Abihu died before their father did, and they had no sons; so Eleazar and Ithamar served as the priests.
3 And David distributed them, that is, Sadoc of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, according to their courses and ministry. With the help of Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, David organized them according to the appointed duties in their service. With the help of Zadok a descendant of Eleazar and Ahimelek a descendant of Ithamar, David separated them into divisions for their appointed order of ministering.
4 And there were found many more of the sons of Eleazar among the principal men, than of the sons of Ithamar. And he divided them so, that there were of the sons of Eleazar, sixteen chief men by their families: and of the sons of Ithamar eight by their families and houses. Since more chief men were found among the sons of Eleazar than among the sons of Ithamar, they organized them under sixteen heads of fathers’ houses of the sons of Eleazar, and eight of the sons of Ithamar. A larger number of leaders were found among Eleazar’s descendants than among Ithamar’s, and they were divided accordingly: sixteen heads of families from Eleazar’s descendants and eight heads of families from Ithamar’s descendants.
5 And he divided both the families one with the other by lot: for there were princes of the sanctuary, and princes of God, both of the sons of Eleazar, and of the sons of Ithamar. They divided them by lot, all alike, for there were sacred officers and officers of God among both the sons of Eleazar and the sons of Ithamar. They divided them impartially by casting lots, for there were officials of the sanctuary and officials of God among the descendants of both Eleazar and Ithamar.
6 And Semeias the son of Nathanael the scribe a Levite, wrote them down before the king and the princes, and Sadoc the priest, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, and the princes also of the priestly and Levitical families: one house, which was over the rest, of Eleazar: and another house, which had the rest under it, of Ithamar. And the scribe Shemaiah, the son of Nethanel, a Levite, recorded them in the presence of the king and the princes and Zadok the priest and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the priests and of the Levites, one father’s house being chosen for Eleazar and one chosen for Ithamar. The scribe Shemaiah son of Nethanel, a Levite, recorded their names in the presence of the king and of the officials: Zadok the priest, Ahimelek son of Abiathar and the heads of families of the priests and of the Levites—one family being taken from Eleazar and then one from Ithamar.
7 Now the first lot came forth to Joiarib, the second to Jedei, The first lot fell to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah, The first lot fell to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah,
8 The third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim, the third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim, the third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim,
9 The fifth to Melchia, the sixth to Maiman, the fifth to Malchijah, the sixth to Mijamin, the fifth to Malkijah, the sixth to Mijamin,
10 The seventh to Accos, the eighth to Abia, the seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah, the seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah,
11 The ninth to Jesua, the tenth to Sechenia, the ninth to Jeshua, the tenth to Shecaniah, the ninth to Jeshua, the tenth to Shekaniah,
12 The eleventh to Eliasib, the twelfth to Jacim, the eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim, the eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim,
13 The thirteenth to Hoppha, the fourteenth to Isbaab, the thirteenth to Huppah, the fourteenth to Jeshebeab, the thirteenth to Huppah, the fourteenth to Jeshebeab,
14 The fifteenth to Belga, the sixteenth to Emmer, the fifteenth to Bilgah, the sixteenth to Immer, the fifteenth to Bilgah, the sixteenth to Immer,
15 The seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Aphses, the seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Happizzez, the seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Happizzez,
16 The nineteenth to Pheteia, the twentieth to Hezechiel, the nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jehezkel, the nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jehezkel,
17 The one and twentieth to Jachin, the two and twentieth to Gamul, the twenty-first to Jachin, the twenty-second to Gamul, the twenty-first to Jakin, the twenty-second to Gamul,
18 The three and twentieth to Dalaiau, the four and twentieth to Maaziau. the twenty-third to Delaiah, the twenty-fourth to Maaziah. the twenty-third to Delaiah and the twenty-fourth to Maaziah.
19 These are their courses according to their ministries, to come into the house of the Lord, and according to their manner under the hand of Aaron their father: as the Lord the God of Israel had commanded. These had as their appointed duty in their service to come into the house of the LORD according to the procedure established for them by Aaron their father, as the LORD God of Israel had commanded him. This was their appointed order of ministering when they entered the temple of the LORD, according to the regulations prescribed for them by their ancestor Aaron, as the LORD, the God of Israel, had commanded him.
20 Now of the rest of the sons of Levi, there was of the sons of Amram, Subael: and of the sons of Subael, Jehedeia. And of the rest of the sons of Levi: of the sons of Amram, Shubael; of the sons of Shubael, Jehdeiah. As for the rest of the descendants of Levi: from the sons of Amram: Shubael; from the sons of Shubael: Jehdeiah.
21 Also of the sons of Rohobia the chief Jesias. Of Rehabiah: of the sons of Rehabiah, Isshiah the chief. As for Rehabiah, from his sons: Ishiah was the first.
22 And the son of Isaar Salemoth, and the son of Salemoth Jahath: Of the Izharites, Shelomoth; of the sons of Shelomoth, Jahath. From the Izharites: Shelomoth; from the sons of Shelomoth: Jahath.
23 And his son Jeriau the first, Amarias the second, Jahaziel the third, Jecmaan the fourth. The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, Jekameam the fourth. The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third and Jekameam the fourth.
24 The son of Oziel, Micha: the son of Micha, Samir. The sons of Uzziel, Micah; of the sons of Micah, Shamir. The son of Uzziel: Micah; from the sons of Micah: Shamir.
25 The brother of Micha, Jesia: and the son of Jesia, Zacharias. The brother of Micah, Isshiah; of the sons of Isshiah, Zechariah. The brother of Micah: Ishiah; from the sons of Ishiah: Zechariah.
26 The sons of Merari: Moholi and Musi: the son of Oziau: Benno. The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Jaaziah: Beno. The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The son of Jaaziah: Beno.
27 The son also of Merari: Oziau, and Seam, and Zacchur, and Hebri. The sons of Merari: of Jaaziah, Beno, Shoham, Zaccur, and Ibri. The sons of Merari: from Jaaziah: Beno, Shoham, Zakkur and Ibri.
28 And the son of Moholi: Eleazar, who had no sons. Of Mahli: Eleazar, who had no sons. From Mahli: Eleazar, who had no sons.
29 And the son of Cis, Jeramael. Of Kish, the sons of Kish: Jerahmeel. From Kish: the son of Kish: Jerahmeel.
30 The sons of Musi: Moholi, Eder, and Jerimoth. These are the sons of Levi according to the houses of their families. The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jerimoth. These were the sons of the Levites according to their fathers’ houses. And the sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder and Jerimoth. These were the Levites, according to their families.
31 And they also cast lots over against their brethren the sons of Aaron before David the king, and Sadoc, and Ahimelech, and the princes of the priestly and Levitical families, both the elder and the younger. The lot divided all equally. These also, the head of each father’s house and his younger brother alike, cast lots, just as their brothers the sons of Aaron, in the presence of King David, Zadok, Ahimelech, and the heads of fathers’ houses of the priests and of the Levites. They also cast lots, just as their relatives the descendants of Aaron did, in the presence of King David and of Zadok, Ahimelek, and the heads of families of the priests and of the Levites. The families of the oldest brother were treated the same as those of the youngest.
