Job continued speaking:1And Job took up his discourse again:
“I vow by the living God, who has taken away my rights, by the Almighty who has embittered my soul—2"As surely as God lives, who has denied me justice, the Almighty, who has made my life bitter--
As long as I live, while I have breath from God,3for while my spirit is still in me, and the breath from God is in my nostrils,
my lips will speak no evil, and my tongue will speak no lies.4my lips will not speak wickedness, and my tongue will whisper no deceit.
I will never concede that you are right; I will defend my integrity until I die.5I will never declare that you three are in the right; until I die, I will not set aside my integrity!
I will maintain my innocence without wavering. My conscience is clear for as long as I live.6I will maintain my righteousness and never let it go; my conscience will not reproach me for as long as I live.
“May my enemy be punished like the wicked, my adversary like those who do evil.7"May my enemy be like the wicked, my adversary like the unrighteous.
For what hope do the godless have when God cuts them off and takes away their life?8For what hope does the godless have when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?
Will God listen to their cry when trouble comes upon them?9Does God listen to his cry when distress overtakes him?
Can they take delight in the Almighty? Can they call to God at any time?10Will he find delight in the Almighty? Will he call out to God at all times?
I will teach you about God’s power. I will not conceal anything concerning the Almighty.11I will teach you about the power of God; What is on the Almighty's mind I will not conceal.
But you have seen all this, yet you say all these useless things to me.12If you yourselves have all seen this, Why in the world do you continue this meaningless talk?
“This is what the wicked will receive from God; this is their inheritance from the Almighty.13This is the portion of the wicked man allotted by God, the inheritance that evildoers receive from the Almighty.
They may have many children, but the children will die in war or starve to death.14If his children increase--it is for the sword! His offspring never have enough to eat.
Those who survive will die of a plague, and not even their widows will mourn them.15Those who survive him are buried by the plague, and their widows do not mourn for them.
“Evil people may have piles of money and may store away mounds of clothing.16If he piles up silver like dust and stores up clothing like mounds of clay,
But the righteous will wear that clothing, and the innocent will divide that money.17what he stores up a righteous man will wear, and an innocent man will inherit his silver.
The wicked build houses as fragile as a spider’s web, as flimsy as a shelter made of branches.18The house he builds is as fragile as a moth's cocoon, like a hut that a watchman has made.
The wicked go to bed rich but wake to find that all their wealth is gone.19He goes to bed wealthy, but will do so no more. When he opens his eyes, it is all gone.
Terror overwhelms them like a flood, and they are blown away in the storms of the night.20Terrors overwhelm him like a flood; at night a whirlwind carries him off.
The east wind carries them away, and they are gone. It sweeps them away.21The east wind carries him away, and he is gone; it sweeps him out of his place.
It whirls down on them without mercy. They struggle to flee from its power.22It hurls itself against him without pity as he flees headlong from its power.
But everyone jeers at them and mocks them.23It claps its hands at him in derision and hisses him away from his place.
