Job continued speaking:1Job continued his discourse, saying:
“I vow by the living God, who has taken away my rights, by the Almighty who has embittered my soul—2As God lives, who has deprived me of justice, and the Almighty who has made me bitter,
As long as I live, while I have breath from God,3as long as my breath is still in me and the breath from God remains in my nostrils,
my lips will speak no evil, and my tongue will speak no lies.4my lips will not speak unjustly, and my tongue will not utter deceit.
I will never concede that you are right; I will defend my integrity until I die.5I will never affirm that you are right. I will maintain my integrity until I die.
I will maintain my innocence without wavering. My conscience is clear for as long as I live.6I will cling to my righteousness and never let it go. My conscience will not accuse me as long as I live!
“May my enemy be punished like the wicked, my adversary like those who do evil.7May my enemy be like the wicked and my opponent like the unjust.
For what hope do the godless have when God cuts them off and takes away their life?8For what hope does the godless person have when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?
Will God listen to their cry when trouble comes upon them?9Will God hear his cry when distress comes on him?
Can they take delight in the Almighty? Can they call to God at any time?10Will he delight in the Almighty? Will he call on God at all times?
I will teach you about God’s power. I will not conceal anything concerning the Almighty.11I will teach you about God's power. I will not conceal what the Almighty has planned.
But you have seen all this, yet you say all these useless things to me.12All of you have seen this for yourselves, why do you keep up this empty talk?
“This is what the wicked will receive from God; this is their inheritance from the Almighty.13This is a wicked man's lot from God, the inheritance the ruthless receive from the Almighty.
They may have many children, but the children will die in war or starve to death.14Even if his children increase, they are destined for the sword; his descendants will never have enough food.
Those who survive will die of a plague, and not even their widows will mourn them.15Those who survive him will be buried by the plague, yet their widows will not weep for them.
“Evil people may have piles of money and may store away mounds of clothing.16Though he piles up silver like dust and heaps up fine clothing like clay--
But the righteous will wear that clothing, and the innocent will divide that money.17he may heap it up, but the righteous will wear it, and the innocent will divide up his silver.
The wicked build houses as fragile as a spider’s web, as flimsy as a shelter made of branches.18The house he built is like a moth's cocoon or a shelter set up by a watchman.
The wicked go to bed rich but wake to find that all their wealth is gone.19He lies down wealthy, but will do so no more; when he opens his eyes, it is gone.
Terror overwhelms them like a flood, and they are blown away in the storms of the night.20Terrors overtake him like a flood; a storm wind sweeps him away at night.
The east wind carries them away, and they are gone. It sweeps them away.21An east wind picks him up, and he is gone; it carries him away from his place.
It whirls down on them without mercy. They struggle to flee from its power.22It blasts at him without mercy, while he flees desperately from its force.
But everyone jeers at them and mocks them.23It claps its hands at him and scoffs at him from its place.
