Psalm 58
NLT Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationEnglish Standard Version
1Justice—do you rulers know the meaning of the word? Do you judge the people fairly?1Do you indeed decree what is right, you gods? Do you judge the children of man uprightly?
2No! You plot injustice in your hearts. You spread violence throughout the land.2No, in your hearts you devise wrongs; your hands deal out violence on earth.
3These wicked people are born sinners; even from birth they have lied and gone their own way.3The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray from birth, speaking lies.
4They spit venom like deadly snakes; they are like cobras that refuse to listen,4They have venom like the venom of a serpent, like the deaf adder that stops its ear,
5ignoring the tunes of the snake charmers, no matter how skillfully they play.5so that it does not hear the voice of charmers or of the cunning enchanter.
6Break off their fangs, O God! Smash the jaws of these lions, O LORD!6O God, break the teeth in their mouths; tear out the fangs of the young lions, O LORD!
7May they disappear like water into thirsty ground. Make their weapons useless in their hands.7Let them vanish like water that runs away; when he aims his arrows, let them be blunted.
8May they be like snails that dissolve into slime, like a stillborn child who will never see the sun.8Let them be like the snail that dissolves into slime, like the stillborn child who never sees the sun.
9God will sweep them away, both young and old, faster than a pot heats over burning thorns.9Sooner than your pots can feel the heat of thorns, whether green or ablaze, may he sweep them away!
10The godly will rejoice when they see injustice avenged. They will wash their feet in the blood of the wicked.10The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he will bathe his feet in the blood of the wicked.
11Then at last everyone will say, “There truly is a reward for those who live for God; surely there is a God who judges justly here on earth.”11Mankind will say, “Surely there is a reward for the righteous; surely there is a God who judges on earth.”
