A Song of Ascents. LORD, remember David And all his afflictions; | 1A song of ascents. LORD, remember David and all his self-denial. |
How he swore to the LORD, And vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob: | 2He swore an oath to the LORD, he made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob: |
“Surely I will not go into the chamber of my house, Or go up to the comfort of my bed; | 3"I will not enter my house or go to my bed, |
I will not give sleep to my eyes Or slumber to my eyelids, | 4I will allow no sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, |
Until I find a place for the LORD, A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.” | 5till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob." |
Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah; We found it in the fields of the woods. | 6We heard it in Ephrathah, we came upon it in the fields of Jaar: |
Let us go into His tabernacle; Let us worship at His footstool. | 7"Let us go to his dwelling place, let us worship at his footstool, saying, |
Arise, O LORD, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength. | 8Arise, LORD, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. |
Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness, And let Your saints shout for joy. | 9May your priests be clothed with your righteousness; may your faithful people sing for joy.'" |
For Your servant David’s sake, Do not turn away the face of Your Anointed. | 10For the sake of your servant David, do not reject your anointed one. |
The LORD has sworn in truth to David; He will not turn from it: “I will set upon your throne the fruit of your body. | 11The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath he will not revoke: "One of your own descendants I will place on your throne. |
If your sons will keep My covenant And My testimony which I shall teach them, Their sons also shall sit upon your throne forevermore.” | 12If your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne for ever and ever." |
For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His dwelling place: | 13For the LORD has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling, saying, |
“This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it. | 14"This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it. |
I will abundantly bless her provision; I will satisfy her poor with bread. | 15I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor I will satisfy with food. |
I will also clothe her priests with salvation, And her saints shall shout aloud for joy. | 16I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her faithful people will ever sing for joy. |
There I will make the horn of David grow; I will prepare a lamp for My Anointed. | 17"Here I will make a horn grow for David and set up a lamp for my anointed one. |
His enemies I will clothe with shame, But upon Himself His crown shall flourish.” | 18I will clothe his enemies with shame, but his head will be adorned with a radiant crown." |
