Ezekiel 4
NKJV Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionInternational Standard Version
“You also, son of man, take a clay tablet and lay it before you, and portray on it a city, Jerusalem.1"And now Son of Man, you are to take a brick, set it in front of you, and inscribe on it the outline of the city—that is, Jerusalem.
Lay siege against it, build a siege wall against it, and heap up a mound against it; set camps against it also, and place battering rams against it all around.2You are to lay siege against it, build a rampart around it, set a bulwark against it, encircle it with a berm, set up camps against it, and place battering rams around it.
Moreover take for yourself an iron plate, and set it as an iron wall between you and the city. Set your face against it, and it shall be besieged, and you shall lay siege against it. This will be a sign to the house of Israel.3Then you are to take a flat, iron plate and set it up as an iron wall between you and the city. "Next, you are to turn toward it, oppose it, and place it under siege, because you are to lay siege to it. All of this will serve as a sign to the house of Israel.
“Lie also on your left side, and lay the iniquity of the house of Israel upon it. According to the number of the days that you lie on it, you shall bear their iniquity.4"Now as for you, you are to sleep on your left side, symbolically bearing the punishment of the house of Israel while you're counting the days you'll be sleeping on your left side to bear symbolically the punishment for their sin.
For I have laid on you the years of their iniquity, according to the number of the days, three hundred and ninety days; so you shall bear the iniquity of the house of Israel.5I've assigned you to sleep this way for 390 days, representing the years they've been sinning, as you bear symbolically the punishment of the house of Israel.
And when you have completed them, lie again on your right side; then you shall bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days. I have laid on you a day for each year.6When you have completed this, you are to sleep on your right side, symbolically bearing the iniquity of Judah for 40 days. Each day that I've assigned to you represents one year.
“Therefore you shall set your face toward the siege of Jerusalem; your arm shall be uncovered, and you shall prophesy against it.7After this, you are to turn toward the rampart of Jerusalem and oppose it with your bare arms, because I'm going to prophesy about it.
And surely I will restrain you so that you cannot turn from one side to another till you have ended the days of your siege.8Look! I'll tie you up so that you're unable to turn from one side to the other until you've completed your siege."
“Also take for yourself wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet, and spelt; put them into one vessel, and make bread of them for yourself. During the number of days that you lie on your side, three hundred and ninety days, you shall eat it.9"Furthermore, you are to take some wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet, and spelt, and mix them together in one container. Then you are to make bread from these grains sufficient to supply you through the time during which you'll be sleeping on your side. You are to eat it for 390 days.
And your food which you eat shall be by weight, twenty shekels a day; from time to time you shall eat it.10The food that you'll be eating is to consist of portions weighing 20 shekels, to be consumed daily at regular intervals.
You shall also drink water by measure, one-sixth of a hin; from time to time you shall drink.11You are to measure one sixth of one hin of water each time you drink it.
And you shall eat it as barley cakes; and bake it using fuel of human waste in their sight.”12You are to eat it as barley cakes and bake it right in front of them, using dried human dung for cooking fuel."
Then the LORD said, “So shall the children of Israel eat their defiled bread among the Gentiles, where I will drive them.”13Then the LORD said, "This is how the Israelis will be eating unclean food among the nations, where I'll be sending them."
So I said, “Ah, Lord GOD! Indeed I have never defiled myself from my youth till now; I have never eaten what died of itself or was torn by beasts, nor has abominable flesh ever come into my mouth.”14"Now, Lord GOD," I replied, "I've never been defiled, ever since I was young until now. I haven't eaten an animal that died on its own or was torn by beasts, and no unclean meat has ever entered my mouth!"
Then He said to me, “See, I am giving you cow dung instead of human waste, and you shall prepare your bread over it.”15"Okay," he responded. "I'll allow you to substitute cow's dung for human dung. Cook your food over that."
Moreover He said to me, “Son of man, surely I will cut off the supply of bread in Jerusalem; they shall eat bread by weight and with anxiety, and shall drink water by measure and with dread,16He also told me, "Son of Man, look! I'm about to disrupt the source of bread in Jerusalem. As a result, they'll ration bread by weight while their terror continues to grow and they'll ration drinking water while their horror continues to mount!
that they may lack bread and water, and be dismayed with one another, and waste away because of their iniquity.17Indeed, they'll need bread and water, but everyone will be panic-stricken as they waste away in their iniquity."
