Micah 2
NKJV Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionEnglish Standard Version
Woe to those who devise iniquity, And work out evil on their beds! At morning light they practice it, Because it is in the power of their hand.1Woe to those who devise wickedness and work evil on their beds! When the morning dawns, they perform it, because it is in the power of their hand.
They covet fields and take them by violence, Also houses, and seize them. So they oppress a man and his house, A man and his inheritance.2They covet fields and seize them, and houses, and take them away; they oppress a man and his house, a man and his inheritance.
Therefore thus says the LORD: “Behold, against this family I am devising disaster, From which you cannot remove your necks; Nor shall you walk haughtily, For this is an evil time.3Therefore thus says the LORD: behold, against this family I am devising disaster, from which you cannot remove your necks, and you shall not walk haughtily, for it will be a time of disaster.
In that day one shall take up a proverb against you, And lament with a bitter lamentation, saying: ‘We are utterly destroyed! He has changed the heritage of my people; How He has removed it from me! To a turncoat He has divided our fields.’ ”4In that day they shall take up a taunt song against you and moan bitterly, and say, “We are utterly ruined; he changes the portion of my people; how he removes it from me! To an apostate he allots our fields.”
Therefore you will have no one to determine boundaries by lot In the assembly of the LORD.5Therefore you will have none to cast the line by lot in the assembly of the LORD.
“Do not prattle,” you say to those who prophesy. So they shall not prophesy to you; They shall not return insult for insult.6“Do not preach”—thus they preach— “one should not preach of such things; disgrace will not overtake us.”
You who are named the house of Jacob: “Is the Spirit of the LORD restricted? Are these His doings? Do not My words do good To him who walks uprightly?7Should this be said, O house of Jacob? Has the LORD grown impatient? Are these his deeds? Do not my words do good to him who walks uprightly?
“Lately My people have risen up as an enemy— You pull off the robe with the garment From those who trust you, as they pass by, Like men returned from war.8But lately my people have risen up as an enemy; you strip the rich robe from those who pass by trustingly with no thought of war.
The women of My people you cast out From their pleasant houses; From their children You have taken away My glory forever.9The women of my people you drive out from their delightful houses; from their young children you take away my splendor forever.
“Arise and depart, For this is not your rest; Because it is defiled, it shall destroy, Yes, with utter destruction.10Arise and go, for this is no place to rest, because of uncleanness that destroys with a grievous destruction.
If a man should walk in a false spirit And speak a lie, saying, ‘I will prophesy to you of wine and drink,’ Even he would be the prattler of this people.11If a man should go about and utter wind and lies, saying, “I will preach to you of wine and strong drink,” he would be the preacher for this people!
“I will surely assemble all of you, O Jacob, I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together like sheep of the fold, Like a flock in the midst of their pasture; They shall make a loud noise because of so many people.12I will surely assemble all of you, O Jacob; I will gather the remnant of Israel; I will set them together like sheep in a fold, like a flock in its pasture, a noisy multitude of men.
The one who breaks open will come up before them; They will break out, Pass through the gate, And go out by it; Their king will pass before them, With the LORD at their head.”13He who opens the breach goes up before them; they break through and pass the gate, going out by it. Their king passes on before them, the LORD at their head.
